Mardi Gras Gala taking place Saturday

Officials with the Pennyrile Children’s Advocacy Center and Eddy Grove Vineyard are inviting the public to attend their Mardi Gras Gala this weekend.
Executive Director Leslie Chrisman says the lineup for Saturday’s event is packed with fun-filled events.

According to Chrisman the funds raised from the gala will help keep the organization in business.

The Mardi Gras Gala will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Hopkinsville Country Club and for more information contact 270-881-11-11.

School board to discuss superintendent search Tuesday

The Christian County School board will discuss a possible contract with the Kentucky School Boards Association for help in finding a new superintendent at tomorrow night’s special-called meeting.

The advanced agenda says the contract to make the KSBA a consultant in the process would be at a cost of $8,500.

The board will also hear site-based decision making council presentations from Christian County High and Middle Schools, Hopkinsville High and Middle Schools and North Drive Middle School.

The meeting will be at 5:30 in the Performing Arts Center at Christian County Middle School on Glass Avenue. As is normally the case for special-called meetings, there is no line on the agenda for public comments.

Grant money received for Caregie rennovation

The most important step toward renovating the old Hopkinsville Carnegie Library on Liberty Street has been accomplished.

Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble says a federal grant application for half a million dollars has been approved and that Fiscal Court will vote tomorrow morning to accept the money as the “pass-through” agent.

Significant renovations must be made before it can once again be opened to the public, including making it handicap accessible.

A website for the Carnegie Library says the finished building will be a facility for afternoon tutoring, a lecture center, a gallery space and a concert hall. The building was originally built in 1914.

Judge Tribble credited Ashley Johnson with the Pennyrile Area Development District for being very instrumental in obtaining the grant funding.

Oak Grove Village takes another step forward

More progress has been made toward making the proposed Oak Grove Village shopping area and amusement park a reality.

State Senator Joey Pendleton of Hopkinsville says tax increment financing legislation was passed last week in Frankfort to assist with initial costs and that incentives relating to the tourism aspect of the project will be looked at Wednesday.

Senator Pendleton says there are still plenty of people who question whether Oak Grove Village will ever welcome shoppers on Fort Campbell Boulevard, but he says it will happen.

Senator Pendleton says it will not only bring tourism dollars to Christian County, it will also create much-needed jobs.

The senator says he hopes ground can be broke on the project as soon as next month.

Alleged meth dealer arrested on Butler Rd.

An alleged drug dealer was arrested on the strength of a sealed indictment in Christian County Saturday night.

Sheriff’s Deputy Philip Meacham served the indictment at the 12110 Butler Road residence of 26-year old Tonya McCain around 9:30pm, according to the arrest card.

McCain is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and was lodged in the Christian County Jail.
