Nearly 2,000 people show up to see bridge site

It was billed as a one time only deal and approximately 1,900 people took the Land Between the Lakes up on their offer yesterday to view the wreckage of the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge just as a salvage crew began to remove the debris from the brow of the Delta Mariner.

Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says in a news release that LBL officials will again keep that area closed to the public from here on out for safety reasons, but the 1,900 site-seers were able to view the historical damage to the bridge from the shoreline throughout the day yesterday.

It has now been ten days since the Delta Mariner was in the wrong channel when it collided with the Eggner’s Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake, knocking out a 322-foot span. Thankfully and almost miraculously, no one was injured or killed in the incident.
