A Cadiz business sustained damage to the roof Saturday when a tractor trailer struck it while backing up.

A news release from the Cadiz Police Department says the incident happened a little after 3:15pm at Cadiz Eye Clinic at 304 Main St. Police say a witness saw a tractor-trailer back into the building and cause the damage and that a vehicle matching the description was found nearby.

The driver of the rig, 25-year old John Pepper of Cadiz, first denied having done the damage, but officers found pieces of the rear on top of the trailer. Pepper was not cited for any crime, but police say charges could be added later.

A 16-year old Clarksville boy is in stable condition after being shot Saturday morning, though details of the incident are sketchy.

The young man was dropped off at Gateway Medical Center in a silver Mitsubishi Galant with a gunshot wound to the lower back. The victim was transported by helicopter to a Nashville hospital, where he is listed as stable.

Police say the victim claimed he had spent the night with some friends and was talking down Old Ashland City Highway when he was shot. He said he didn’t know who shot him and couldn’t give an exact location of the incident. He also could not identify the men who brought him to the hospital. Anyone who may have information on the incident is asked to call Clarksville Police.

Kentucky State Police investigated shots fired in Calloway County Saturday and would arrest a Farmington man on attempted murder charges.

A news release says troopers were called to Jones Road, where 29-year old Jamie Forrester of Farmington had allegedly fired shots into an out building in an apparent attempt to kill someone inside. Police would later find Forrester at his residence on Mark Duncan Lane, where he allegedly barricaded himself inside for several hours and refused to come out.

Troopers eventually negotiated him outside and arrested Forrester on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

More details are coming out about a home invasion in Graves County late last week and the arrest of three local men in the following hours.

Graves County Sheriff DeWayne Redmon tells WPSD TV of Paducah that the break-in was pre-planned and that the suspects intended to steal guns in the home.

Arrested and charged with attempted murder were 24-year old James Kirby and 40-year old Richard Phipps of Hopkinsville and 29-year old Edwin Russell of Elkton.

Police say two of the suspects knocked on the door and shot Richard Jett when he answered. A suspect then allegedly struck Jett with a weapon before shooting his wife Sharon Jett in the back.

Ms. Jett took several more shots to the legs and body, but still managed to shoot Phipps in the side and hand. Russell was the driver who took Kirby and Phipps to the residence, but reportedly drove away when he heard shots fire. The Elkton man was the connection to the Jett family, as he reportedly once dated their daughter.

The daughter and a granddaughter of the Jetts were in the home, but went uninjured in the incident. The couple is reportedly in serious condition at an area hospital, but is expected to survive.

Kirby and Russell are in the Graves County Jail, while Phipps is lodged in the McCracken County Jail.

A Hopkinsville woman was arrested Friday night for allegedly driving drunk with her three-year old child in the back seat.

In fact, police say 36-year old Tiffani Harrison of Hopkinsville had a blood alcohol content of .230—nearly three times the legal limit of .800.

Harrison was pulled over after she almost collided with a police cruiser, according to the arrest card, which says empty beer bottles and cans were found in the vehicle at the traffic stop on Glass Avenue shortly after 7pm.

Officers also smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Harrison’s person and she reportedly failed field sobriety tests. She was also allegedly driving on a suspended license with her three-year old son and a friend in the vehicle.

Harrison was charged with DUI, wanton endangerment and driving on a suspended license.
