The Hopkinsville Police Department held its second community crime report meeting this afternoon.
Lieutenant Mike Seis reported the police department’s K-9 unit was very busy last month catching criminals.

According to Lieutenant Seis, despite having a record number of wrecks in January, he says the number of wrecks with injuries decreased compared to the same time period last year.
Despite an open invitation for the public to attend the monthly meeting, area residents did not show up to hear about latest crime trends happening in their area.

A local educator and former youth pastor publicly announced his intention to run in the 2012 election for the 8^th District State House of Representatives seat.
Republican Max Sturdivant Jr. of Hopkinsville made his announcement in the rotunda of the Justice Center this afternoon with a small group of his supporters watching on.
According to Sturdivant he wants to make sure hard working citizens have a voice in Frankfort.

Sturdivant adds he is the best candidate for the position because he has a plan to lower state spending and the ability to tackle other issues concerning citizens in the 8^th District.

He will be facing incumbent John Tilley, a Democrat from Hopkinsville in the November General election.

Hopkinsville Community College recently got national attention.

HCC was reportedly among five other Kentucky community and technical colleges that was featured as part of the White House’s Community College to Career bus tour.
The bus tour was conducted by Vice-President Joe Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden and U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.

According to officials, the purpose of the bus tour was to highlight innovative industry partnerships and an opportunity for students to share their stories about how the partnership between colleges and businesses transformed their lives.

The bus tour began Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio and will conclude this Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Over a hundred books will be donated to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital this Friday from 4^th grade students attending Jackson Elementary School on Fort Campbell.

Medical providers will reportedly give the age-appropriate books to patients seen within the Young Eagle Clinic at BACH.

According to officials, the students collected the books as part of a service project for the 100th day of school.

Chief of the Young Eagle Clinic, Major Adam Brown stated the gifts his patients will receive from these young students will continue to remain valuable in the lives of the recipients of these books for years to come.
Major Brown will accept the book donations Friday morning at the local post.

Alcohol was allegedly involved in the wreck on W. 7^th St. Wednesday morning that injured a Hopkinsville woman.

The collision happened just before 11 in front of the Westwood Senior Homes, according to the report from city police, which says 66-year old Brenda Paris turned out of the apartment complex parking lot into traffic and into the path of 51-year old Danny Ferrell of Paducah.

Ferrell continued on and pushed the vehicle driven by Ms. Paris into a vehicle parked nearby.

Police say Ferrell couldn’t give an account of what happened when police arrived and that he allegedly admitted to having drunk “too much.”

He refused field sobriety tests and the breath test and was charged with aggravated DUI. He also reportedly said he did not have any insurance.

Ms. Ferrell was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for her injuries.
