Man accused of spraying penned dog in face with Raid
A Hopkinsville man will have to appear in court later this month on charges that he sprayed a dog confined to a pen in the face with bug spray.
Christian County Sheriff’s Sgt. Andre Radford served a criminal summons to 79-year old Frank Arvin of 3140 Butler Road Thursday afternoon.
The summons alleges that Arvin admitted to spraying a German Shepherd with Raid bug spray Tuesday inside a neighbor’s back yard. The dog is in an enclosed fence and police say Arvin reached inside to spray the animal in the face.
The dog’s owner is identified as Chris Knight and a witness told him about seeing the incident. Arvin will face cruelty to animal charges in district court May 23rd.

Armed robbery at Hopkinsville car wash under investigation
A Hopkinsville man was robbed at gunpoint at a carwash late last night.
The incident happened around 11pm at Mark 1 Car Wash on Lafayette Road, where 51-year old Steven Perry said two young black males standing about 5-10 and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds approached him with handguns and demanded money.
The suspects got away with cash and Perry’s cell phone. Perry told police he didn’t know the suspects and there was a witness to the incident. The investigation continues by Hopkinsville Police.

Two drivers injured in rear end collisions
Two rear-end collisions in Hopkinsville sent motorists to Jennie Stuart Medical Center last night.
The first wreck happened about twenty minutes before five on South Virginia Street, where 27-year old Vernita Watkins of Hopkinsville was slowing in traffic when she was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by 51-year old Luann Fries of Hopkinsville.
Ms. Fries told police she didn’t realize traffic was slowing down in time to stop. Ms. Watkins was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart for neck pain.
The second incident happened around 9:40 on McLean Avenue, where Lisa Burrus of Hopkinsville was stopped to make a left turn and was rear-ended by Heather Sadler of Hopkinsville. Ms. Sadler said she became distracted and took her foot off the brake, causing the wreck.
Ms. Burrus was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Clarksville Police make arrests in roadside murder case
Johnson
Clarksville Police have made an arrest in connection with a road-side murder from over the weekend.
A news release says 18-year old Giovanni Johnson of Victory Road, Clarksville was arrested Thursday along with a 17-year old male suspect. Johnson is in the Montgomery County Jail, while the juvenile is at the Columbia Juvenile Detention Center. Both suspects face murder charges.
Police were called to Victory Road early Sunday morning and found a vehicle off the side of the road with the driver dead from a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Fort Campbell soldier 22-year old Taylor Hotzoglou.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators say anyone with information should contact police.

Hopkinsville Police Guy Howie honors law enforcement profession
Often criticized for their line of work, and not praised enough, police officers will continue to patrol the streets and apprehend criminals when most turn a blind eye to crime.
Hopkinsville Police Chief Guy Howie spoke to local Kiwanians about what it means to be a police officer and the hardships officers endure so that others can remain safe.
Chief Howie says everyday he witnesses first hand the dedication and sacrifices officers make and that the job entails more than just issuing traffic citations.
Chief Howie says long after all the memorials have been erected to honor fallen soldiers from various wars, police officers will continue to fight the good fight and serve their community with honor, despite the dangers of their chosen profession.
Five Hopkinsville Police Officers have been killed in the line of duty since 1893, and Chief Howie says the sacrifices made by those officers will never be forgotten.
