Whether its time to put up a new fence, plant a tree or dig up a few shrubs, officials with Atmos Energy are urging local citizens to dial 811.
April is National Safe Digging Month and officials want citizens to know where their natural gas and other buried utility lines are located before they dig.
According to the American Gas Association, about 60 percent of all incidents on utility distribution pipelines result from excavation damage.
In Kentucky, residents are required by state law to dial 811 before they dig and requires at least two days notice before excavation can begin.
The nationwide 811 one-call program is free, and Atmos Energy officials say it can save residents time and money.

Jennie Stuart Medical Center is partnering with a national corporation for the opening of a local wound care center.

A news release says Jennie Stuart is partnering with National Health Corporation of Jacksonville, Florida to launch a comprehensive, wound care program. National Health is the world’s largest provider of hospital-based outpatient managed wound care centers and treated more than one million wounds last year.

Officials at the local hospital say the Wound Healing Center is under construction on the ground floor of Jennie Stuart at the Outpatient Procedure entrance on High Street. The center will specialize in the treatment of non-chronic wounds and non-responsive conditions.

The cost to build and equip the center is listed at $400,000 and it is expected to open in June.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of several guns from a Greenville Road residence.

Darren Meacham told deputies that someone came to his 3680 Greenville Road address late last week and broke into two sheds behind his home.

The suspect pried open a gun safe and took nine guns worth about $2,000. The suspect also stole a five gallon bucket filled with coins valued at about $1,000.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

The man accused of chasing his neighbor down the street with a knife in Elkton last month will receive a mental evaluation after court action yesterday.

33-year old John Dukes, who resided at 601 South Streets Avenue on March 18^th, appeared in Todd District Court for a preliminary hearing on wanton endangerment charges.

Another hearing was scheduled in two weeks so Dukes could be evaluated.

Elkton Police arrested Dukes around 12:20 March 18^th after he allegedly beat on the apartment wall of his neighbor—27-year old Brandon Carrol—and met him outside with a 10-inch knife when he came outside.

Carrol said Dukes made a stabbing motion and chased him down the street until he was able to stop a passing vehicle to get help. Dukes allegedly tried to run from Elkton Police Sgt. Rodney Moberly, but was caught about 50 yards from his apartment.

The knife used in the incident was found in Dukes’ kitchen sink and he allegedly admitted to committing the crime.

Two people were injured in a wreck in Calloway County yesterday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police say 19-year old Katryn Parrish of Murray was southbound on Butterworth Road around 1:30 and came to a complete stop at the intersection with Kentucky Highway 94.

Ms. Parrish then pulled into the path of a westbound vehicle driven by 67-year old Mary Robertson of Murray. Ms. Robertson attempted to swerve, but struck the Parrish vehicle in the driver’s side.

Both drivers were taken to Murray-Calloway County Hospital, with Ms. Parrish later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
