A Todd County warm-weather tradition resumes later this week when the first Elkton Bike Night of the season will be held.
For several years now, bikers from across the region have converged on the historic Elkton Square during the warm weather months each Thursday night.
This year’s season begins this Thursday afternoon around 5 and Todd County Welcome Center Director Deborah Sale says the band “Big Nancy” will be the featured entertainment.
Very large crowds usually show up and vendors offer food in addition to Elkton’s restaurants each week. Ms. Sale says people have come to Bike Night from several neighboring counties and states.
You don’t have to ride a motorcycle to attend, as many people from the area who are just motorcycle enthusiasts show up for the weekly event to fellowship.
Marquita Cassetty is leading the Bike Night Committee this year.

Maintenance work is being done on the remaining spans of the Eggners Ferry Bridge to prepare it for eventual repair after one section was knocked out by a cargo vessel January 26th.
A news release from the State Highway Department says railing replacement, deck patching and other repairs are being made before a contractor begins work to replace the 322-foot span which was destroyed.
Hall Contracting of Kentucky will soon begin the 7 million dollar project, which is supposed to be completed by Memorial Day weekend and the maintenance work is a way to reduce any lane closures for smaller repairs once traffic resumes.
Engineers are finalizing the plans required for fabrication of the new span and Hal Construction plans to run a crew of about 40 employees around the clock to meet the deadline.
If the bridge isn’t re-opened by May 27th, Hall will be fined heavily each day thereafter.

Fire in a barbecue pit got out of control at the Woodshed on West 7th Street Saturday, though the damage done was limited.
Hopkinsville fire-fighters responded to the report of a fire about a quarter til 9 Saturday morning and found a cook who said the walls and ceiling had caught fire while he was cooking.
The report says a buildup of carbon, fat and grease inside the building caused the blaze to spread. It didn’t take long for crews to get the fire out, and all fire-fighters were gone by just after 9:30.
About a thousand dollars worth of damage was done to the building and no one was injured in the incident.

A Gracey man was arrested Saturday afternoon for allegedly shoving a pregnant nurse out of his wife’s hospital room.
Arrested on wanton endangerment charges around 2:15 Saturday was 52-year old Jackson McBride of Gracey. The Hopkinsville Police report says McBride became angry at his wife’s nurse—Meghan Nasset of Hopkinsville—and allegedly became very loud and aggressive.
McBride is accused of shoving Nasset, who is 36 weeks pregnant, multiple times until she stumbled out the door, nearly falling on her stomach. A witness told police she heard yelling and then saw the nurse have to catch herself to keep from falling.
McBride was charged with wanton endangerment because he allegedly put the life of the unborn baby in danger.
The expecting mother was going to seek medical care after the incident, while McBride was lodged in the Christian County Jail.
