A man riding a lawn mower on a city street late at night was arrested last night, after police determined he was also allegedly driving with a suspended license.

The arrest card says 48-year old John Fickle of Hopkinsville was driving a 1999 green Craftsman riding mower near the 500 block of West 2^nd St around 10:40 when Hopkinsville Police Officer Rogers Stephens stopped him.

Fickle reportedly told Officer Stephens that his license was suspended so he decided he would drive his mower around town. A computer check revealed his license was suspended from a DUI arrest.

Fickle was arrested and charged with driving on a DUI suspended license and booked into the Christian County Jail.

Terry Frogue gives Elkton City Council details on water seperation proposal/Adam May

No action was taken, but Elkton City Council learned more about the impending water line separation agreement that will have to be worked out between the city and Todd County Water District at its Monday evening meeting.

Elkton Utilities Superintendent Terry Frogue has represented the city in discussions with the county water district and brought proposals on what existing lines could be deemed the property of which entity.

Frogue says he would prefer some flexibility from the county so Elkton has room for growth in the future. Council ultimately decided to table the issue for the time being and will likely call a special meeting dedicated solely to the separation agreement in the near future.

Frogue said he was fine with the council’s decision, as it will take significant time to come to a solution that at least somewhat satisfies everyone involved.

It was the Todd County Water District that brought the separation up in the first place and Frogue says they will charge a 15-percent cost of service fee when it is necessary for city water to go through county lines.

Most important to Elkton residents, Frogue says he doesn’t expect those fees to cause any increases on water bills.

In other business, council approved hiring Patrick Murphy Architecture to write the specifications for a new roof on the Elkton Police Department and applied for a grant for more improvements at the Elkton City Park.

Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle wreck with injuries that occurred at the intersection of KY 2171 and Sandcut Road, approximately two miles east of Earlington, today around 7:20 a.m.
State Police say preliminary investigation reveals that 40-year old Samuel W. Dillingham of Madisonville was stopped at a stop sign on Sandcut Road facing south and 34-year old Karen E. Wilkey of Madisonville was driving eastbound on KY 2171 and was approaching the intersection when Mr. Dillingham’s vehicle reportedly collided with Wilkey’s vehicle as she pulled into the intersection.
Police say Dillingham, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, while Ms. Wilkey and her two passengers, 6-year old Brett Wilkey and 3-year old Katherine Wilkey were transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Trooper First Class John Komar investigated the collision and the Earlington Volunteer Fire Department, the Grapevine Volunteer Fire Department, and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.

The woman injured in a single vehicle wreck on Dawson Springs Road Monday morning has passed away from her injuries.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office Captain Chris Miller confirms in a news release that 69-year old Dorris Miller of Dawson Road, Crofton died from her injuries in the hours following the violent crash that ended in the parking lot of Pleasant Green Baptist Church not far north of the bypass.

Police say Ms. Miller was southbound when she ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and flipped several times. She was ejected from her mini-van and was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Ms. Miller was to be flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but succumbed to her injuries during transport, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Trigg County did not fare so well in the recent University of Wisconsin county by county nationwide health survey.

Trigg ranks 85^th out of 120 Kentucky in overall health. One of the major factors dragging Trigg County down is that 31-percent of surveyed adults are smokers, far more than the national average of 14-percent and over the state average of 27-percent.

Another negative is that 26-percent of Trigg Countians lack easy access to healthy foods, compared to 7-percent across Kentucky. 48-percent of adults in Trigg have some college education, less than the statewide average of 55-percent and national average of 68-percent.

On the positive side, Trigg County has a higher high school graduation rate than the state average at 83-percent and the teen birth rate is also below the state average.
