An arrest has been made in connection with the assault from over the weekend that sent a man to a Nashville hospital with a fractured skull.

Arrested this morning around 8:15 was 20-year old Calvin McNeely of Hopkinsville, who police say admitted to striking 18-year old Brandon Gard of Hopkinsville over the head with a bottle.

McNeely is listed as an employee of the North Main Street Kangaroo Mart and the initial report indicates the disagreement between Gard and three suspects was over Gard returning items that had been stolen from that store. The arrest card says McNeely was angry Gard had been cooperating with police in a theft investigation.

Gard remains in Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain, while McNeely is lodged in the Christian County Jail on 1^st degree assault and retaliating against a witness charges.

Hopkinsville Police have arrested the man they believe was driving a vehicle involved in a chase that extended into Clarksville Sunday evening.

Officer Adam Robertson served an arrest warrant on 20-year old Darren Meeks of Hopkinsville around 12:30 yesterday on Barberry Drive in the city, with Meeks charged with wanton endangerment, fleeing from police and driving on a suspended license.

Police began the pursuit on Fort Campbell Boulevard when Meeks was allegedly “clocked” driving 70 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. There three female passengers in the vehicle who reportedly asked him to stop and cooperated with police in the investigation.

The bids came in over budget the last time Christian Fiscal Court tried to go through with building an addition onto the Animal Shelter, but the county believes it may have found a different starting point that will work.           

Instead of just bidding the project out with the original specifications again, Christian County Attorney Mike Foster says Fiscal Court instead agreed to enter into contract with Codell Construction to help them draw up plans that will make the project less expensive.

If the price is still too high, the county is under no obligation to Codell, according to Foster—though Codell would get the contract if they can work together to make the project feasible.

In other business, court approved an agreement between the county clerk and Kentucky Department of Libraries to save many old documents on micro-film, which is expected to far out-live paper and possibly digital records.

Training incentives were also approved for Magistrates Jim Fleming, Jack Lackey and Tom Jones.

A Hopkinsville man was cited into court last night on charges of harboring a vicious dog, with witnesses saying he had encouraged the animal to attack multiple people.

The dog reportedly bit 20-year old Greg Babb of Hopkinsville on the arm near the 1400 block of East 9^th St around 10:30 and that’s when the formal investigation began. Other local residents reportedly told police that the dog had bit other people through the day and that its owner, 45-year old James Boyd of Hopkinsville, had encouraged the dog to do so.

Boyd was cited into court and faces harboring a vicious animal charges.

A man riding a lawn mower on a city street late at night was arrested last night, after police determined he was also allegedly driving with a suspended license.

The arrest card says 48-year old John Fickle of Hopkinsville was driving a 1999 green Craftsman riding mower near the 500 block of West 2^nd St around 10:40 when Hopkinsville Police Officer Rogers Stephens stopped him.

Fickle reportedly told Officer Stephens that his license was suspended so he decided he would drive his mower around town. A computer check revealed his license was suspended from a DUI arrest.

Fickle was arrested and charged with driving on a DUI suspended license and booked into the Christian County Jail.
