A Christian County man sustained relatively minor injuries in a violent wreck on Greenville Road this morning.

The incident happened around 9:30 near the 2600 block of Greenville Road, according to Christian County Sheriff’s Captain Chris Miler, who says 71-year old Carl West of Ovil Road lost control of his pickup and ran off the road, before over-correcting the other direction and coming to rest in front of a barber shop at 2016 Greenville Road after striking several mail boxes.

Captain Miller says West was sore and had some cuts, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

Police say there was some damage to the walkway in front of J. Michael’s Barber and Beauty Shop, but no damage to the actual structure.

The Christian County Animal Shelter has scheduled another off-site adoption event for this weekend.

As she did a few weeks ago, Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace will have animals up for adoption at Tractor Supply on the Eagle Way Bypass Saturday morning beginning at 9.

Ms. Grace says they were very successful the last time they had an event at Tractor Supply and that there will be a 10 dollar discount on adoption fees for animals taken home Saturday.

The Animal Shelter has enjoyed record months recently in finding homes for pets, using Facebook and Petfinder to post photos of the cats and dogs online for anyone to see.

The arrival of Hemlock Semi-Conductor just across the state and county border has caused a significant increase in traffic in Guthrie and it will only get greater over the next few years as the extremely large plant grows.

Extra traffic means an even greater danger at two awkward intersections in the town, prompting state officials to look at ways to re-route or alter the U.S. 79-KY 181 and U.S. 41-KY 181 crossings.

A group with the Department of Highways came to Guthrie recently and discussed options, but State Senator Joey Pendleton says money to put shovels in the ground is just not there at this point—though there are funds for the initial design phases.

Senator Pendleton says south Todd County residents should know the projects are necessary and they will happen, it’s just a matter of when.

The two intersections are particularly dangerous for tractor-trailers due to visibility issues and due to there being little room to maneuver.

The Senator says the widening of KY 181 coming south into Elkton from the 68 bypass will happen and is funded in the current road plan.

It only happens once every three years, so residents of Trigg County and adjoining Kentucky counties are encouraged to drop off their unwanted tires at a free disposal event later this month.

The Trigg County disposal days will be April 26^th, 27^th and 28^th at the road department garage at 2759 Hopkinsville Road off of U.S. 68 near the airport.

Ashley Johnson of the Pennyrile Area Development District says most tires are accepted on and off the rim.

There will likely be a line and those with sizeable loads are encouraged to bring help to unload.

The hours are 8am to 4pm Thursday and Friday and 8am to noon Saturday, April 28^th. Other local counties are having similar events, with stories on those to come at a later date.

A Nortonville couple already in trouble with the law was arrested yesterday afternoon on methamphetamine charges.

A news release from Kentucky State Police says Trooper John Komar was assisting Hopkins County Probation and Parole with a home visit at the residence of 33-year old Roger Skimehorn and 26-year old Brittany Skimehorn of Nortonville around 2:20pm when police saw items of drug paraphernalia in plain view.

Consent was given to search the residence and police say they found two separate methamphetamine labs in addition to components of a lab inside the couple’s car.

Both suspects were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and were lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
