Clarksville Police are investigating a shooting on Chapel Street from early this morning.

A news release says the incident happened around 1am, when several 911 calls came in from residents who heard gunshots on Chapel.

Officer Brian Coghill found a vehicle near the intersection of Chapel and Locust Street rolling backward, with a 26-year old man partially out of the vehicle. Police determined the man had been shot and found another vehicle with bullet holes nearby.

The victim was flown by Life-Flight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where underwent surgery and is in critical, but stable condition.

The Rotary Auction had another positive and extremely efficient night, bringing this year’s total closer to last year’s numbers after two days.

The numbers show 93 items were sold last night for a total of 96-hundred dollars, compared to 101 items sold for 79-hundred dollars last year on Tuesday.

In fact, this year’s auction was better on night two in every category from last year other than the Century and Goat Clubs. The two cash donation funds received 10-thousand-200 dollars on Tuesday night last year, but only 72-hundred dollars last night.

Total money raised so far this week for the student loan and scholarships program totals 99-thousand, 432 dollars, compared to 101-thousand, 931 dollars after Tuesday of last year.

A single vehicle wreck on the Dawson Springs Road last night injured the driver and caused a power outage.

The wreck happened around 7:30 near the Rooster Run Road intersection, with the man running off the road and hitting a power pole.

The Hopkinsville Fire Department was called for mutual aid to extricate the driver from the wreckage, as the Christian County Rescue Squad was busy helping a man off of Pilot Rock who found himself trapped in a crevasse, according to Emergency Management Director Randy Graham.

The trapped hiker would be fine, while the man injured in the wreck was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and was expected to be flown from there to Vanderbilt University Medical Center via Life Flight Helicopter.

A Pennyrile Electric power pole was snapped in the wreck, causing some customers north and west of Hopkinsville to be without electricity for about an hour.

Two Hopkinsville men were arrested on unrelated sex crime charges yesterday afternoon.

The first arrest resulted from a search warrant at the home of 35-year old Robert Stites of Hopkinsville, where a laptop computer was seized on December 22^nd of last year.

The Regional Computer Forensics Lab finished analyzing data on the hard drive yesterday and allegedly turned up 29 separate child pornography images. Stites was arrested and charged with possession of matter portraying the sexual performance of a minor and was lodged in the Christian County Jail.

The second arrest was on sexual abuse charges, after a 12-year old boy told his mother and police that 72-year old Coley Carl of Hopkinsville had been inappropriately touching him since September of last year.

Carl was charged with 1^st degree sexual abuse.
