The Hopkinsville Police Department is reminding area residents to lock their doors and secure personal possessions in a safe location.
Hopkinsville Police responded to 124 burglaries since January and out of those 124 burglaries, 56 of those involved a residence, business or any type of building that was left unlocked.
Leaving a residence unsecured is an open invitation for a burglar and police are urging residents to get into the habit of making sure all windows and doors are locked at all times, especially when the home is not occupied.
Hopkinsville Police say it only takes a few minutes for a burglar to enter and exit a house or building when it’s unsecured and unoccupied.

Kentucky State Police continue to enforce the law and apprehend individuals caught breaking the law.
Last month, state troopers in post-2 arrested 33 impaired drivers, issued a total of 1,744 citations, including 652 speeding tickets and responded to 896 calls for service and assisted 161 stranded motorists.
State Police also opened 54 criminal cases, which resulted in 131 criminal arrests.
KSP reports there were three fatal wrecks, with two of the fatalities occurring in Hopkins County and occurring in Christian County and police say none of the victims were wearing their seatbelts.
State troopers assigned to the post-2 enforce the law in Hopkins, Christian, Caldwell, Crittenden, Webster, Muhlenberg and Todd Counties and will continue to conduct traffic safety checkpoints in those counties.
State Police say at these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and will look for any other violations.

Former Secretary of State and retired four star General, Colin Powell is expected to travel to Fort Campbell later this month.
Powell will be meeting with local troops and their families as he signs hundreds of copies of his latest and best-selling novel, It Worked For Me: In Life and Leadership on Wednesday, May 30^th from noon until 3 p.m. at the post-exchange building.
The book is being described as a powerful portrait of Powell as he recounts vivid experiences and lessons he learned throughout the years from his family and his military career.
Powell once served as a commander for the 101^st Airborne Division’s 2^nd Brigade Combat Team and served as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 through 1993 and was the first African American to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Hopkinsville Police Detectives believe the Sunday night shooting on Campbell Street was pre-meditated.

Public Information Officer Paul Ray says the suspect is believed to be a young black male standing 5-8 to 5-10 with a thin build.

Officer Ray says the perpetrator stood over 27-year old Javon Radford as he lied on the pavement, leading detectives to believe the crime was intentional and though out.

Police are still asking for the public’s help in finding the person responsible for the shooting and leads can be reported to the Crime Stoppers line anonymously at 887-TIPS.

The incident happened around 9:15 Sunday night near the South Campbell-East 1^st intersection. Radford continues to recover from his wounds at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he is in critical, but stable condition.

An Oak Grove man was arrested in connection with a robbery in Clarksville yesterday.

A news release from Clarksville Police says 26-year old Ryan Hart of 613 Kerri Lane, Oak Grove went to a business in the 1600 block of Fort Campbell Boulevard around noon yesterday using a large handgun.

Police say he demanded money, while holding three female employees at gunpoint. The women gave him cash and he demanded their identifications before fleeing the scene with the money stuffed in his pockets.

Detective Eric Ewing was quickly able to identify Hart as a suspect and Oak Grove Police detained him until in his home Clarksville law enforcement arrived.

Hart voluntarily accompanied detectives back to Clarksville, where he would admit to the robbery. Hart later took police to a wooded area where he put the money and a 40 caliber Glock in a buried cooler. The women’s identifications were also found buried nearby.

Hart is charged with aggravated robbery and is lodged in the Montgomery County Jail.
