Kentucky State Police released the name of a man, who was killed earlier this morning after being involved in a vehicle versus train wreck in Earlington.
Preliminary investigation revealed that 76-year old James A. Johnson of Madisonville was driving a 2002 Toyota pickup truck southbound on US 41, when Mr. Johnson made a right turn onto West Moss Street and entered the railroad crossing where his vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a CSX train.
State Police say the train pushed the vehicle about three-tenths of a mile before stopping just north of the Wilson Street railroad crossing.
Mr. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield and no other injuries related to the wreck were reported.
Police say both the visual and audible warning signals at the railroad crossing were functioning at the time of the collision.
The incident remains under investigation and is being handled by State Trooper Nick Rice, Sergeant Brenton Ford, Trooper First Class John Komar, the Earlington Volunteer Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, the State Highway Department, and the Hopkins County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

Progress continues to be made concerning the construction of a new span for Eggners Ferry Bridge.
Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet say structural steel for the new span is being assembled at the Lyon County Riverport at Eddyville.
Over the weekend, steel workers managed to assemble the flooring frame of the new truss section and partially assemble the deck support structure.
Officials say after the assembly is complete, it will be lifted onto a barge to be transported to the Eggners Ferry Bridge site and placed on the existing piers.
Since January 26^th, the bridge has been closed after a 8,200 ton cargo ship crashed into the bridge and knocked off a 322 foot span into Kentucky Lake.
Hall Contracting of Louisville has a $7 million contract to replace the missing span and reopen the bridge by Memorial Day weekend and the company faces a $50,000 penalty for each day the company goes beyond the May 27^th deadline for restoring traffic on the bridge.
Prior to the events of January 26^th, Eggners Ferry Brudge normally carried about 2,600 vehicles across Kentucky Lake each day at the Marshall-Trigg County line between Aurora and Cadiz.

Law enforcement officials are once again teaming up with residents of Crofton to reduce criminal activity in their community.
Local citizens are encouraged to attend Tuesday night’s Neighborhood Watch meeting to voice their concerns and meet with elected officials and discuss ways they can make a difference in keeping the streets safe.
Crofton Organization spokesman Pete Craddock says it’s important for residents to attend because criminal activity is happening and it needs to stop.
Craddock says the Neighborhood Watch meeting is a community initiative in taking back the community from criminals.
The Crofton Neighborhood Watch meeting will take place at Crofton Baptist Church located at 155 College Street at 7 p.m.

Kentucky State Police investigated a two-vehicle injury collision that occurred on Jernigans Chapel Road, approximately two miles east of Greenville early this morning. State Police say around 10:24 a.m. 63-year old Thomas Spurlock of Greenville was driving a 2012 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Jernigans Chapel Road when 54-year old Ronald Chandler of Sebree was driving a 2004 Advance concrete mixer and was stopped in the northbound lane on Jernigans Chapel Road.
State Police say Mr. Spurlock’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck the concrete mixer head-on in the northbound lane.      
Mr. Spurlock was flown from the scene to St. Mary’s in Evansville, Indiana for treatment, while Mr. Chandler did not require any medical attention.
Kentucky State Police was assisted on the scene by the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department, Muhlenberg County EMS, and PHI Air Medical.

Preliminary statistics released by Kentucky State Police indicate that seven people died in six separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Monday, April 13^th through Sunday.
All of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and four victims were not wearing seat belts.
Single fatality wrecks occurred in Bullitt, Hardin, Jefferson, Jessamine and Marion Counties and the crash in Jefferson County involved the suspected use of alcohol.
No fatalities were reported in Christian, Todd or Trigg Counties.
Through April 29^th, preliminary statistics indicate that 197 people died on Kentucky roadways, which is 7 fatalities less than what was reported for the same time period last year.
KSP says out of the 197 fatalities, 166 involved motor vehicles and that 99 of those victims were not wearing seat belts and 31 deaths resulted from wrecks involving the suspected use of alcohol.
