Burglars allegedly steal jewelry worth thousands of dollars

A Hopkinsville woman claims burglars stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from her residence.

58-year old Kathy Knight of Country Club Lane told Hopkinsville Police yesterday that an unknown person entered her residence and removed jewelry and coins worth over $1,500 without her permission.

A suspect description was not provided in the report, but police say the investigation into the burglary remains ongoing.

Police out in full force this weekend

Before you decide to get behind the wheels make sure you have a designated driver if you plan on consuming alcohol this holiday weekend.

Law enforcement agencies across Kentucky and Tennessee will be out in full force looking for impaired drivers.

In Kentucky, Kentucky State Police will be continuing its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

According to state police, during the 2010 New Years Eve enforcement period, there were 949 crashes resulting in 316 injuries and 3 deaths.

Sears Holdings releases first list of Sears, K-Mart closures

Sears Holdings Company has named 79 of the 100 to 120 K-Mart and Sears stores it will be closing and none in Hopkinsville or Clarksville are on the list.

A second, smaller list is still yet to be released, but there are currently no plans to close any Sears or K-Mart in western Kentucky or Middle Tennessee. Sears announced there would be closures last week after a less than Christmas shopping season at their stores.

Clarksville officials urge education of Fort Defiance

Its been said that those who are unaware of history are destined to repeat it, and officials at the Clarksville Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center want to ensure area residents are educated about local history.

Fort defiance interpreter William Parker says residents should know about the local fort and how it played a major role in the civil war.

According to parker, this year marked the 150^th anniversary of the fort’s construction.

If you’re interested in learning about local history, the interpretive center is located at 120 Duncan Street, Clarksville.

Hopkinsville Police investigate alleged armed robbery

The Hopkinsville Police Department is investigating an alleged armed robbery case.

Shaquarron Pollard reported to police yesterday that unknown suspects were armed with weapons when they entered a business called Supreme Clientele Barber Shop and took three gold rings worth $300.

Police say they are still gathering evidence in the case and that there were five total victims in the alleged robbery.

According to police the alleged suspects face 1^st degree robbery charges.
