A Hopkinsville Police Officer has been recognized for his efforts in keeping drunk drivers off the streets.

Officer Edward Eastman received the Governor’s Award for Impaired Driving Enforcement last week in Lexington, according to a news release, which says the award recognizes outstanding achievement in the apprehension of impaired drivers, reducing alcohol-related injury or fatal wrecks and working for a safer community.

Public Information Officer Paul Ray says Officer Eastman, along with each officer is committed to removing impaired drivers from the road before they seriously injure or kill innocent people.

Two Crime Stoppers Fugitives of the Week were arrested over the weekend, thanks to tips from the public.

Arrested Friday night just before 11 at 919 E. 18^th St. was 26-year old Christina Brison of Hopkinsville. Brison was sought on charges of Probation Violation and Contempt of Court after being convicted on drug crimes.

Hopkinsville Police arrested 19-year old Johnathan Adkins of Hopkinsville early Sunday morning at a W 7^th St. bar on the strength of a warrant for charges of failure to pay fines associated with a menacing and public intoxication arrest.

The anonymous tipsters will receive a cash reward for helping police find the wanted fugitives.

Three local high school band students will be participating in the Kentucky Music Educators Association All-State Band in Louisville this February.

Band parent and band alumni Andrew Gray says Christian County High School band members Michael Ralstad and Andrea Gray and Hopkinsville High School band member Brady Hinton successfully auditioned for the event over the weekend at John Hardin in Elizabethtown.

Ralstad plays the trumpet; Ms. Gray plays the trumpet and Hinton the tuba.

The three local students competed against approximately 900 others from across Kentucky and emerged among only 200 to be named “All-State.”

Kristopher Wyvell

A Hopkinsville man was arrested last night for allegedly attacking a police officer who was trying to help him.

Police were called to 1009 Moayon St. around 10 and allegedly found 18-year old Kristopher Wyvell lying in the floor and saying he was “dying.” Officer Matthew Overby writes it was apparent Wyvell was intoxicated on an mixture of alcohol and an unknown substance and an ambulance was called at Wyvell’s request to take him to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Wyvell allegedly became combative at the emergency room and allegedly attempted to punch Officer Overby in the face, missing by only inches. Wyvell was arrested after treatment and charged with 3^rd Degree Assault of a police officer.

Anthony Burgess

The man who was shot in self-defense by a State Trooper in Christian County last Saturday has been released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A news release from KSP says 29-year old Anthony Burgess of Oak Grove waived extradition and is now in the Christian County Jail. Burgess was shot by Trooper James McArthur on Rosetown Road December 3^rd when he allegedly accelerated toward the officer who was on foot in an apparent attempt to run him over.
Burgess kept driving until finally being pulled over on Arthur Henderson Road in Todd County. A helicopter took Burgess from there to Vanderbilt, where he remained for eight days. He is charged with Wanton Endangerment, Attempted Murder of a police officer, 2^nd degree Assault and fleeing from police.
