Christian County Sheriff's Deputy arrested

A Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested and booked into the Christian County Jail this morning.

45-year old Kent Roberts was arrested without incident by Kentucky State Police at his residence around 10:30 and is charged with 4th degree assault and 1st degree official misconduct.

Roberts was arrested after State Police investigated an assault complaint that allegedly involved Sidney A. Faulkner and Roberts.

State Police say Faulkner has not been located, but does have a warrant for his arrest for assault.

According to a media release provided by KSP, Roberts and Faulkner are accused of committing an assault which occurred on November 26th when Roberts, was off duty at the time and was driving his cruiser in the company of Faulkner.  

Deputy Roberts was booked into the Christian County Jail on a 2-thousand dollar bond and bonded out of jail today and is suspended without pay from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.

Hopkinsville woman charged with trafficking marijuana

A Hopkinsville woman was booked into the Christian County Jail last night for allegedly committing a drug offense and other offenses.

29-year old Laurie J. Smith is charged with trafficking marijuana and receiving stolen property under $500.

According to police, officers were dispatched to 205 Bryan Street to recover a stolen lap top and while on the scene Smith told police the lap top was stolen over a year ago and officers could smell marijuana coming from the residence and after obtaining a search warrant they found several baggies of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and the stolen lap top.

Smith was booked into the Christian County Jail without incident.

Clarksville Police searching for AWOL soldier

Clarksville Police need your help locating a Fort Campbell soldier that is listed as absent without leave from the Army and who is wanted in connection with a crime.

Police are looking for 32-year old Joseph Brent Adkins, who has six warrants on file for two felony thefts among other charges.

According to police, Adkins stole $1,800 worth of merchandise from a Wilma Rudolph Boulevard store and has been out of jail since October after he served time for a DUI charge.

Adkins is believed to be driving a blue 2005 Dodge Pick-up truck with Tennessee tags of 476-XMF.

The 32-year old soldier is also accused of shoplifting at Kroger’s located on Dover Crossing with another male, 27-year old David Preston Saunders, who was arrested early this morning and was booked into the Montgomery County jail and has two burglary, a criminal impersonation and theft charges added to the nine warrants already pending against him. 
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Adkins are urged to call police at 931-648-0656.

Over 100 Fort Campbell soldiers return from deployment

Over 100 Fort Campbell soldiers returned from their year long deployment in Iraq, just in time for the holidays.

According to post officials, the 140 Screaming Eagles are the last combat troops from the Iraq war.
The soldiers were assigned the 101st Sustainment Brigade and their return marks the official end to the Iraq war, which began March 21st, 2003.

101st Commanding General, Major General James McConnville reportedly welcomed the local soldiers home and thanked them for their service and sacrifice during a welcome home ceremony for the troops.

Former Fort Campbell soldier sentenced to 15 years in jail

A former Fort Campbell soldier has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing his wife last year.

A panel of military officers convicted 26-year old Robert Jenks of voluntary manslaughter for choking and stabbing his wife, Linzi Jenks at their home located on post in December 2010.

The Kentucky New Era reports his attorney, Dennis Stanford stated his client suffered mental and physical wounds while he was deployed overseas and when his wife physically attacked him during the argument that ended tragically, it provoked his anger and he reacted without thinking.

Jenks also received a bad conduct discharge from the Army and was ordered to forfeit pay and allowances received while he was in jail.
