The Hopkinsville Police Department is taking crime fighting to a whole new level.

Computer raids were recently made by the department’s electronic crimes unit at six residences in Hopkinsville.

According to police, the raids were in response to an ongoing investigation into the possession of and distribution of child pornography.

In addition to the raids, ten computers were examined and eight were seized, along with “smart phones”.

Police say the investigation is ongoing by electronic crimes unit detectives Bert Finley and Scott Raup.

No charges have been filed as of yet.

Christmas day has traditionally been tragic on Kentucky roadways and that proved to be sadly true again this year in Warren County.

State Police say 17-year old Logan Keeney of Bowling Green was southbound on the Natcher Parkway near the 10 mile-marker around 3pm when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the northbound lanes. Kenney’s vehicle truck two vehicles head-on.

The first vehicle was driven by 63-year old Lanny Williams of Morgantown and the second by 58-year old Billy Byrd of Morgantown.
Williams was taken by ambulance to Greenview Hospital, while his passenger—61-year old Kathenia Williams of Morgantown—was pronounced dead on the scene.

Keeney was taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the occupants of the Byrd vehicle went uninjured.

Dozens of men and women who expected to have Christmas off were called to action when a tractor-trailer overturned on a major highway.

The incident happened shortly after 10am at Interstate 24 exit 25, at the westbound ramp to get on the Purchase Parkway southbound. The truck was hauling 10 bulk containers of material estimated at 39,900 pounds.

Emergency management officials said the substance in the containers was Potassium Hydroxide and Postassium Carbonate, which are chemicals used in many industrial purposes.

The substances weren’t thought to be an immediate health danger to those in the vicinity, but crews were having a considerably hard time cleaning the site up. A detour was set up to get around a closure which lasted the entire day.

A Fort Campbell Soldier is in critical condition after being shot at his own coming home party Friday in California.

An Associated Press story says 22-year old Christopher Sullivan was shot late Friday while trying to break up a fight between his brother and another man at a party near San Bernardino, California.

Sullivan is reportedly paralyzed and in critical condition. He had been recovering on Fort Campbell from injuries sustained in Afghanistan from a suicide bombing. He was on leave at the time of the shooting.

Police say no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

While Christmas will always be a day of joy and celebration, it is always important to remember those who are feeling a great sense of sadness on the holidays.

That is certainly the case this morning for the family of Fort Campbell High School head track and assistant football coach Tyrone Johnson, who passed away Friday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after experiencing a severe asthma attack earlier in the week.

Johnson was set to begin his first season at the helm of the track team, after serving as an assistant to Josh McKillip and being part of state championship teams. He was also a part of the football dynasty that brought home trophies in recent years for the blue and white.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening at McReynolds, Nave and Larson Funeral Home on Madison Street in Clarksville. Funeral Services will be 11am Wednesday at Faith Outreach Church in Clarksville.
