A Jeep pulling a trailer wrecked on Greenville Road yesterday morning, injuring a Hopkinsville man.

The incident happened around 11:10, according to the report from the Sheriff’s Office.

Police say 35-year old Samual Wright of Greenville was pulling a small trailer loaded with hay when the right side tires of the trailer dropped off the roadway. Wright over-corrected and the trailer became disconnected and the Jeep ran off the road and flipped.

A passenger, 35-year old Heath Hopper of South Kentucky Avenue, Hopkinsville was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for a shoulder injury.

Wright was cited for not having proof of insurance.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating two fires at the same address last night and early this morning.

The first fire destroyed a two-story house under construction at 9029 Shiloh Church Road belonging to John Williams of that address. Williams told police he heard his dog barking outside and looked around, but didn’t see anything unusual. He said that while he was in the shower he heard an explosion.

When he looked outside, he saw his under construction house on fire. Williams said his children heard someone talking outside just before the blaze. He had been working on building the house for six years and there was not yet any electrical wiring installed. The structure was valued at $72,000 and Williams said he had no insurance on the house.

The Lacy Volunteer Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office were called back to the property just before 6:30, when an out building filled with antiques was also set on fire.

Williams had been asleep on the couch when he awoke to find that building on fire around 6:23am. No suspects are listed on the report.

North Christian County will be even more prepared for a disaster after Community Emergency Response Team training this upcoming weekend in Crofton.

The training will be at Crofton Baptist Church, 155 College St., from 6 until 9pm Friday evening and 8am to 5pm Saturday.

Pennyrile Citizens Corps Council Regional Operations Officer Frank Brown organized the Kelly Community “CERT Team” and says this weekend’s training is an opportunity for anyone interested in helping their neighbor in the face of disaster to learn more.

Attendees will be provided lunch on Saturday and graduates will receive a CERT equipment bag with tools and safety equipment.

The Kelly Community Organization has grown substantially and Brown says he’s seen the same kind of interest in Crofton.

CERT teams have responded locally to disasters such as ice storms, floods and tornadoes.

A Hopkinsville man was arrested on DUI and Wanton Endangerment charges after he wrecked with his one-year old baby in his vehicle on the bypass yesterday.

The incident happened around 2pm, according to the report from Hopkinsville Police, which says 18-year old Austin Dale Jones of Hopkinsville was westbound near the Fort Campbell Boulevard intersection when he fell asleep and ran off the road.

His vehicle overturned onto the drivers’ side, though Jones and one-year old Kiylee Jones went uninjured. Police say they found two empty bags of synthetic marijuana and an empty prescription pill bottle in the vehicle, and Jones reportedly admitted to doing the drugs.

Jones was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI, Wanton Endangerment and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and lodged in the Christian County Jail.
