Someone broke into the Carmike Movie Theater in Hopkinsville late Monday night or Tuesday morning in an apparent attempt to break into a safe.

The report from Hopkinsville Police says employees of the theater behind Bradford Square Mall found that someone had pried open an auditorium door to get in the building.

The perpetrator then pried or kicked in an office door to get to a safe containing cash, but was not able to get it open. Justin Settle of the theater told police there had been previous burglaries at the building and damage done in those instances.                                                    **

The State Senate has passed its own re-districting bill and it isn’t exactly what the rumors indicated it might have been.

State Senator Joey Pendleton of Hopkinsville was the only Democrat to vote for the bill which would give him Christian, Caldwell, Crittenden and Union Counties. He currently serves Christian, Todd and Logan.

Just as the House re-districting bill pitted several Republicans against each other—including State Representative Myron Dossett against Madisonville Republican Ben Wade—the Senate bill puts four Democrat senators against each other.

Senator Pendleton is not in that number and Todd and Logan Counties are up for grabs as to who their senator will be.

The bill has Todd and Logan in a district with Muhlenberg, Simpson and Allen Counties in addition to a portion of Warren.

There are rumors that a prominent Todd County Democrat may run for that seat, though the bill will have to pass both chambers and be signed by the governor before anyone could file.

There was reportedly an understanding the senate would pass the house’s bill and vice versa to allow those law-makers to draw their own districts.

Wild life poaching continues to be a problem for the Kentucky and Tennessee Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Agencies.

Sergeant James Nason of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Agency, Officer Dale Grandstaff and Officer Mike Murdock of Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency conducted a joint investigation recently and confiscated a prized deer carcass, a deer stand and a compound bow after they received a tip about two people, who allegedly hunted a deer without a license.

Sergeant Nason of Pembroke determined on Monday two men from Springfield, Tennessee conspired to hunt deer illegally in Christian County, which resulted in the illegal harvest of a trophy buck.

According to Sergeant Nason poaching wild life happens too often in Christian County and he says illegal deer hunting is a serious criminal offense.

The deer was reportedly hunted in the area of Stripped Bridge Road and both men were cited to appear in court for non-resident hunting without licenses and permits, illegal use of a license and falsely reporting an incident.

In lieu of reported cases of hazing within the military, specifically at an Air Force Academy that made national headlines recently, the Army Chief of Staff, Raymond Odierno sent an Army-wide letter to active duty soldiers, condemning such behavior.

Fort Campbell Public Affairs Director Bob Jenkins says senior leaders at the local post take the issue seriously and the behavior will not be tolerated.

The Public Affairs Director says there have been no reported cases of hazing at Fort Campbell.

A Hopkins County Jail inmate who escaped from a community service detail last night was found and arrested in Hopkinsville this morning.

A member of the public called the ECC around 9:30 this morning reporting she had seen 32-year old escaped inmate Keith Allen Stafford of Madisonville near the car wash on Clinic Drive just behind the Max Fuel Express.

Stafford had been sought since about 10pm, when he walked away from the detail. Stafford was serving a 120 day sentence for misdemeanor assault and was scheduled for release on March 30^th.

Hopkinsville Police set up a perimeter around the area of the car wash and nearby stores until a police K9 was able to find Stafford around 10:40. Police arrested Stafford and he was to be taken back to Hopkins County.
