Police block Glass avenue during threat/Adam May

A juvenile was arrested this morning after a staff member at Christian County High School received a bomb threat via email, causing students to be evacuated to the old middle school.

There was no evidence that there actually was a bomb on campus, but the school system and police treated the incident as if there was out of an abundance of caution once the email was received just after 8am.

Students were taken to the old middle school for their safety. Police and staff searched each classroom for anything unusual to be sure the building was safe.

The determination that all was safe came just before 10:50am and was relayed to media by Hopkinsville Police Public Information Officer Paul Ray.

Word came shortly after 11 am that a 14-year old female from Oak Grove was arrested and is now lodged in a juvenile detention center in Paducah.

According to police, she dropped a note at the school with a bomb threat on it and after she was read her rights, she admitted to emailing the bomb threat. The 14-year old is now charged with two count of 2nd degree terroristic threatening.

The threat was sent to a staff member last night and was opened at the beginning of the school day, according to school system spokesperson Heather Aubin, who says it was the kind of situation every school system hopes will never happen, but that the response between the district and police went smoothly.

Students were back in their classrooms resuming normal activities late in the morning.

Hopkinsville woman accused of punching police officer

A Hopkinsville woman is accused of assaulting a police officer yesterday.

Arrested around 3:15pm was 31-year old Georgina Washington of Hopkinsville, who reportedly called the Emergency Communications Center and cussed at dispatchers before showing up at the Hopkinsville Police Department headquarters to report a crime.

When an officer explained to her that what she was describing was not a crime, she allegedly began screaming and asking police why they brought her there. The incident reportedly lasted for several minutes before backup was called and that’s when Washington allegedly walked up to Lieutenant Jeff Alexander and started punching him.

She allegedly kept fighting with officers as she was being arrested and was charged with assault of a police officer, disorderly conduct and falsely reporting an incident.

Court martial set for soldier charged with murder

After several mis-trials in civilian court, the fate of a former Fort Campbell soldier charged with murdering his estranged wife and her former mother-in-law is now in the hands of military justice.
Brent Burke will be facing a general court-martial next Monday and military officials say the court martial is expected to last an entire week.
As previously reported by Lite 98.7, Burke is charged with violating several sections of the Uniform Code of Military Justice by killing Tracy Burke and Karen Comer inside Comer’s Rineyville residence on September 11th 2007.
In addition to the murder charges, Burke is also charged with committing burglary for allegedly unlawfully entering the residence of Karen Comer.
Burke was reportedly tried four times in civilian court, where two of the trials ended in mistrials and the other two trials ended in hung juries.
The former Sergeant remains in pre-trial confinement and if he is convicted of the charges he faces death or life in prison.
