Man survives Muh. Co. wreck after being trapped under van

The driver of a van in Muhlenberg County was extremely fortunate to survive a single-vehicle wreck this morning.

State Police say 29-year old Rory Dorris of Dunmor was southbound on Kentucky 431 around 7:30 when his tires dropped off the right side of the roadway, causing him to lose control and overturn several times.

Dorris was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle which came to rest upright, trapping him underneath. First responders were able to use mechanical means to free him from the wreckage and Dorris was taken by ambulance to Muhlenberg Community Hospital for what police believe is only a possible broken leg.

House bill would allow parents who miscarry to apply for certificate

MYRONdecesare

Dossett                       DeCesare

State Representatives Jim DeCesare of Bowling Green and Myron Dossett of Pembroke are co-sponsoring a bill aimed at giving parents who lose a baby to miscarriage a concrete way to remember.

House Bill 210 is currently in the House Health and Welfare Committee and would allow parents who miscarry to apply for a certificate of early fetal death if the loss comes before 20 weeks gestation.

The parents would be charged a reasonable fee and the document would not be kept as a matter of record with the state, but supporters believe it would be a positive alternative to the current policy of not offering anything.

Representative DeCesare says allowing parents who have lost a child through miscarriage to honor their life is the least legislators can do.

A similar law recently passed in Ohio and Representative Dossett says he’s received a lot of positive response to the proposal in Kentucky from all parts of the commonwealth.

Supporters have been careful to keep the issue separate from any abortion debates, as they say this legislation is only meant to comfort parents who are grieving a miscarriage.
