A Hopkinsville doctor was arrested Saturday and charged with growing and selling marijuana.
Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s office executed a search warrant at the 15253 North Madisonville Road residence of 58-year old Doctor Gloria Staples Friday evening and arrested her Saturday.
The arrest card says police found more than five marijuana plants in a “grow room” in the upstairs of the residence. Other equipment commonly associated with the growing, selling and smoking of marijuana were also allegedly found. Those items included rolling papers, pipes and bongs.
Doctor Staples, who runs a practice on North Drive, was charged with cultivating marijuana, trafficking in marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was booked into the Christian County Jail and released the same day on bond.

The male suspect charged with murder in connection with the February 3rd shooting death of a Fort Campbell soldier will appear in Christian District Court today.
24-year old Jarred Tabor Long of Colorado waived extradition and was booked into the Christian County Jail yesterday. Long was arrested near a Mesa County, Colorado Wal-Mart two days after the murder of 28-year old Vincent Goslyn, Jr. of Fort Campbell on Fidelio Road.
The victim’s wife—25-year old Jessie Goslyn—appeared in court last week and a not guilty to murder plea was entered on her behalf after she told the judge she could not afford an attorney.
Jessie Goslyn will appear in District Court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says President Barack Obama's plan regarding insurance coverage of birth control is a violation of the First Amendment.
Appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation," the Kentucky Republican called for Obama to "back down," saying the issue will not go away until the administration does so.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says President Obama is not looking at the issue correctly.
On Friday, President Obama unveiled a compromise aimed at tamping down an outcry over the administration's new policy on contraceptives. Under the compromise, religious-affiliated employers will not be required to provide birth control coverage. That covers Catholic hospitals and Catholic universities, among others. The burden falls to insurance companies to offer birth control services at such institutions, free of charge.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is gearing up for a winter weather event. While this storm isn’t expected to be a “huge deal,” Highway Department spokesman Keith Todd says salt crews are watching the situation and will be ready to respond if and when any frozen precipitation falls.
The Highway Department asks motorists to also do their part by allowing themselves some extra time for any commute this evening or early tomorrow morning just in case conditions do become hazardous.
Once again, residents are reminded that a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon today until 6pm tomorrow, though the bad weather likely won’t arrive in the Hopkinsville-Cadiz-Elkton area until the evening hours.

There are no watches, warnings or advisories yet, but the National Weather Service says wintry precipitation is expected across western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee tomorrow night.
A special weather statement issued by the weather bureau says one to two inches is the “safe” prediction for the entire area, but amounts could be higher in some areas depending on what the temperature is at the onset.
Areas Owensboro and south are expected to have the highest potential for higher amounts, but a mitigating factor is that there is potential for mixed precipitation in the same area which would diminish accumulations.
In any event, travel problems are possible for the Tuesday morning commute and the weather service could issue some type of watch, warning or advisory in the next 24 hours. It would be only the second winter weather event of the season. Christian County Schools have only been closed for one day this year for snow after well over a dozen last winter.
It is still possible the temperature could stay high enough this time to avoid any significant snowfall, but that of course remains to be seen. Stay tuned to the WHOP family of stations and to our websites and Facebook page for all of the latest information on this developing weather situation.
