More details are coming out about a home invasion in Graves County late last week and the arrest of three local men in the following hours.

Graves County Sheriff DeWayne Redmon tells WPSD TV of Paducah that the break-in was pre-planned and that the suspects intended to steal guns in the home.

Arrested and charged with attempted murder were 24-year old James Kirby and 40-year old Richard Phipps of Hopkinsville and 29-year old Edwin Russell of Elkton.

Police say two of the suspects knocked on the door and shot Richard Jett when he answered. A suspect then allegedly struck Jett with a weapon before shooting his wife Sharon Jett in the back.

Ms. Jett took several more shots to the legs and body, but still managed to shoot Phipps in the side and hand. Russell was the driver who took Kirby and Phipps to the residence, but reportedly drove away when he heard shots fire. The Elkton man was the connection to the Jett family, as he reportedly once dated their daughter.

The daughter and a granddaughter of the Jetts were in the home, but went uninjured in the incident. The couple is reportedly in serious condition at an area hospital, but is expected to survive.

Kirby and Russell are in the Graves County Jail, while Phipps is lodged in the McCracken County Jail.

A Hopkinsville woman was arrested Friday night for allegedly driving drunk with her three-year old child in the back seat.

In fact, police say 36-year old Tiffani Harrison of Hopkinsville had a blood alcohol content of .230—nearly three times the legal limit of .800.

Harrison was pulled over after she almost collided with a police cruiser, according to the arrest card, which says empty beer bottles and cans were found in the vehicle at the traffic stop on Glass Avenue shortly after 7pm.

Officers also smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and Harrison’s person and she reportedly failed field sobriety tests. She was also allegedly driving on a suspended license with her three-year old son and a friend in the vehicle.

Harrison was charged with DUI, wanton endangerment and driving on a suspended license.

Hopkinsville Police arrested a man last night accused of breaking into vehicles.

The arrest card for 25-year old David Jack Arwine of Hopkinsville says he was seen by police throwing a brick at the window of a vehicle around 10:30 at the intersection of E. 10^th and Liberty Streets.

Officers reportedly told Arwine to stop, but he allegedly ran across several busy downtown streets in an attempt to get away, before being caught and arrested at 5^th and Liberty. Police say Arwine did over $1,000 worth of damage to the vehicle with the brick and that he reportedly admitted to breaking into cars after his arrest.

Arwine was charged with criminal mischief, fleeing from police and possession of marijuana after jail staff reportedly found the illegal weed on his person.

An Indiana man was jailed on multiple traffic-related offenses Thursday evening after being apprehended more than 10 miles from where he attempted to hit another vehicle with his own.

30-year old Ryan Henkel of Route One, Greenfield, Indiana, told Sheriff's Deputy Scott Noisworthy that he passed a vehicle on the right near the 23 mile marker on the Pennyrile Parkway about 5:30 Thursday evening.

He said he was attempting to hit the other vehicle, whose driver contacted police and maintained contact with Henkel until Deputy Noisworthy made the traffic stop at the 9 mile marker on the parkway.

The arrest card carries charges of wanton endangerment, failure to stop and render aid or assistance, DUI, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in Henkel's vehicle.

Henkel refused a breath test after failing ''field sobriety'' tests administered by Noisworthy.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul will be making stops in Christian and Todd Counties tomorrow.

Senator Paul will be at the Pennyroyal Veterans’ Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9:30 on Boales Street tomorrow morning, as will several other elected officials.

Officials from local, state and federal governments are expected to speak at the much-anticipated occasion—as the state of the art facility will provide much needed housing to needy veterans in the area until they can get back on their feet.

Following that event, Senator Paul will head to Elkton for a Economic Development Roundtable at the Todd County Board of Education on Airport Road. That event is set to begin at noon and is expected to last about two hours.
