3 Detroit natives accused of forgery scheme in Murray

A joint investigation conducted by the Murray Police Department and with the U.S. Secret Service lands three people behind bars for allegedly passing forged checks in Murray.

On Friday the following individuals were taken into custody following a joint investigation: 37-year old Kenyata Mandel Anderson, 21-year old Devonta Turay Jones, and 47-year old Errick Dixon, 47.
Police say the three individuals are all from the Detroit, Michigan area and were arrested during a felony traffic stop on North 12th Street in Murray near Wal-Mart. 

Police say the three individuals were charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $500, and lodged at the Calloway County Jail. 

Police say federal charges are also pending against the individuals.

New Ky. Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary named

Governor Steve Beshear announced today that a tourism and marketing veteran will head the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet.

Bob Stewart of Frankfort will officially begin his duties in his new role on June 1st and replaces Marcheta Sparrow who announced her retirement last week after serving over five years as tourism secretary under Governor Beshear. 

Governor Beshear stated having worked under several governors and served more than 10 years as commissioner of travel, he is the ideal person to head Kentucky’s tourism cabinet.

Kentucky State Police release latest prelim fatal report

Preliminary statistics released by Kentucky State Police indicate that six people died in five separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday, May 13th through Sunday.

State Police a double fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in Nelson County with the crash involved the suspected use of alcohol and one of the victims was not wearing a seat belt.

State Police say a single-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in Christian, Jefferson and Warren Counties with the victim in Warren County not wearing a seat belt and a pedestrian was killed in Jefferson County.

Through Sunday, preliminary data indicate that 196 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013, which is 72 less than what was reported for this time period in 2012.

Hopkinsville's Movie in Park showing rescheduled

Due to the weather last Friday, the City of Hopkinsville’s Parks and Recreation Department’s movies in the park presentation was rescheduled for later this month.

The next movie in the park is scheduled to take place Friday, May 31st.

Officials say each summer full-length feature films will be shown for free at Westside Park.

This summer, officials will be present a total of 5 family movies that will be featured on an inflatable big screen with stereo sound with all showings to begin at dusk.

Another group of Fort Campbell soldiers returns home

A welcome home ceremony was held on Fort Campbell this morning for about 120 soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

The members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team got home just before 9 a.m. after serving nine months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The men and women operated in advising and assisting the Afghan National Security Forces during their deployment.

Meanwhile, 100 members of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade are set to return home Wednesday morning. Another welcome home ceremony is scheduled for the last remaining flight of soldiers from that unit—including brigade commander, Colonel Paul Bontrager.
