A former member of the WHOP staff has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday at Maddux-Fuqua Hinton Funeral Home for 59-year old Deborah Pryor Young of Elkton, who spent several years at WHOP in the 1970’s and 80’s in several different capacities.

Known then as Debbie Joiner, she worked with Jim Love in the news room and also worked in the programming department. Listeners may also remember Debbie from when she hosted a women’s program on WHOP.

She would also go on to become a weather reporter at TV-43, before taking a job at the Hopkinsville Planning Commission.

Ms. Young is survived by her husband, two daughters, a son, brother, sister and four grandchildren.

A Hopkinsville man accused of assaulting a police officer and getting away early this year has been found and taken into custody.

Hopkinsville Police arrested 22-year old Sidney Jackson just after 3pm Sunday on West 7^th Street. The warrant says that on January 17^th, Jackson was being questioned about an air conditioner burglary that happened on Bentley Street.

The investigating officer asked Jackson for permission to search his person for any weapons, which he denied. Jackson then reportedly put his hands to his waist.

The officer than attempted to frisk Jackson and a struggle ensued, with the suspect then allegedly striking the officer in the chest. A mirror was broken off the cruiser and Jackson was able to squirm out of his shirt and fled on foot and ultimately got away.

The warrant alleges that a handgun containing illegal hollow-point ammunition was found in Jackson’s clothes.

Jackson is charged with 3^rd degree assault, criminal mischief, fleeing from police, receiving stolen property and gun charges.

An 11-year old Pembroke boy was arrested and taken to Cumberland Hall Saturday night for a Friday incident when he allegedly assaulted his sister.

Hopkinsville Police investigated an assault at 209 East 9^th that reportedly happened between 5 and 6:30 Friday night. Police were not called until around 10:40 Saturday morning, when a 17-year old female told officers that her 11-year old brother had stabbed her in the left bicep with a broken mop handle during an argument.

The female had a piece of wood removed from her arm at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and it took two sutures to close the wound. The boy, whose address is listed as Pembroke, was charged with 2^nd degree assault.

A Clarksville couple was arrested Saturday night on charges of allegedly smoking marijuana in a vehicle with a baby inside, with the woman also reportedly pregnant.

A news release from Clarksville Police says officers were called to 100 Tandy Lane area after an anonymous tip that marijuana could be smelled in the area. Officer Zack Upton smelled the odor coming from a car upon arrival and allegedly found 18-year old Christopher McKay and 19-year old Tamaria Raybon inside.

The couple reportedly admitted to smoking the illegal weed inside, despite a 12-month old child inside and despite the fact Raybon is eight months pregnant. The couple, both of Tandy Drive Clarksville, was arrested and charged with child abuse, child neglect and possession of marijuana.

The mother of two very young children injured in a wreck in Caldwell County earlier this month has died from her injuries.

Kentucky State Police say 27-year old Angela Harp of Princeton died Wednesday afternoon from injuries sustained in a head-on collision March 8^th on Kentucky Highway 293.

The initial report indicated Ms. Harp was southbound when she lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway and hit a vehicle driven by 55-year old Ross Kaiser of Princeton head-on. Kaiser attempted to avoid the wreck, but was unable to do so.

Kaiser was treated and released from Caldwell County Hospital, as were Ms. Harp’s one and two year old children riding in her vehicle.

The mother was first treated in Caldwell County before being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and the children were properly restrained.
