Two Hopkinsville men were arrested on unrelated sex crime charges yesterday afternoon.

The first arrest resulted from a search warrant at the home of 35-year old Robert Stites of Hopkinsville, where a laptop computer was seized on December 22^nd of last year.

The Regional Computer Forensics Lab finished analyzing data on the hard drive yesterday and allegedly turned up 29 separate child pornography images. Stites was arrested and charged with possession of matter portraying the sexual performance of a minor and was lodged in the Christian County Jail.

The second arrest was on sexual abuse charges, after a 12-year old boy told his mother and police that 72-year old Coley Carl of Hopkinsville had been inappropriately touching him since September of last year.

Carl was charged with 1^st degree sexual abuse.

Transcraft of Cadiz to add 80 more jobs

Following his visit in Louisville, Governor Steve Beshear traveled to Cadiz this afternoon and made a major economic announcement concerning the community of Cadiz.
Governor Beshear announced that Transcraft Corporation, a platform trailer manufacturer planned to expand its operations by building a 12,000 square-foot- painting facility and purchase new equipment as part of a nearly $3 million in Cadiz. 
Governor Beshear then went onto say that the $3 million dollar investment is music to his ears, but he says he proud to know that 80 jobs will be created as a result of the multi-million dollar plans.
Headquartered at International Drive in Cadiz, Transcraft is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wabash National Corporation and was established in 1962.

Eggners Ferry Bridge to be repaired by May 27th

Governor Steve Beshear made two stops in the Pennyrile this afternoon, with the first regarding repairs at Eggners Ferry Bridge.
Governor Beshear visited the site on which workers will assemble the steel truss for a replacement span to repair and reopen the damaged Eggners Ferry Bridge on Kentucky Lake.
Beshear says crews from Hall Contracting of Louisville are fabricating the steel components at the company’s yard in Louisville.
The completed truss will then be transported by barge upriver to the bridge site, where it will be hoisted into place and crews also plan to build a deck for the bridge.
Governor Beshear says Eggners Ferry Bridge will hopefully be opened back up for traffic by May 27^th.
Governor Beshear previously announced that Hall Contracting was awarded a $7 million emergency contract from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to build a replacement span after a large cargo vessel, the Delta Mariner, crashed into the bridge causing a 322-foot span to be knocked off from the structure on the night of January 26^th.

CCSO investigating theft in Crofton

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of over 35-hundred dollars worth of tools from a Crofton job site.

The police report says the theft happened between Friday morning at 10 and yesterday morning at 6:30 at 6550 Crofton-Fruit Hill Road. A work crew with A&G Tree service of Leitchfield had parked its trucks at the address for the weekend and returned Monday to find doors on the truck beds severely damaged.

The perpetrator had broken into the truck beds and took several chain saws, ropes and other pieces of equipment valued at $3,555. No suspects are listed on the report.

Rotary Auction off to good start

The 62nd Annual WHOP Rotary Radio Auction got off to a positive start last night, though totals are running a little behind last year’s pace.

Part of that has to do with 92 items being sold on the first night of the auction, compared to 100 items last year. Those 92 items netted $7,400 toward Rotary student loans and scholarships.

The General Store did much better on night one than last year bringing in right at 800 dollars, compared to 370 dollars last year. The diner and sweet shop collected $1,343, about the same as the first night from last year—and the Century and Goat Clubs have netted 70 thousand dollars exactly.

Overall, this year’s rotary auction total is at $79,543, which is a little less than 16-hundred dollars behind last year’s number after one night.
