Someone who thought he or she was doing a good deed contributed to a wreck on West 7th Street yesterday.
The incident happened around 3:30 when a stopped vehicle waved 25-year old Stephen Evans of Hopkinsville out of the Subway parking lot and into traffic. Witnesses say Evans didn’t pause to look for oncoming traffic and pulled into the path of 22-year old Tiffaney Powell of Hopkisnville.
Ms. Powell’s vehicle struck the front left side of Evans’ car, causing severe damage.
Evans went uninjured, while Ms. Powell was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

A conference committee of state representatives and senators continues to work in Frankfort on hammering out a two-year budget—but progress is slow.
The committee is working into the evening tediously going over every small and large disagreement between the two budgets passed in both chambers and State Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says progress is slow—but there is progress.
The General Assembly came home without a budget in 2010 after the two chambers couldn’t fix their differences, but Representative Dossett says there is much more optimism that a compromise will be had this time around.
Unlike the federal government, the General Assembly must pass a balanced budget and the relative lack of funds available compared to previous sessions is reportedly helping negotiations because less money means less to argue over.
