A Hopkinsville woman returned home last night to find an intruder in her home.

The report from city police says 41-year old Jacqueline Stephenson came home to 3301 Southgate Drive just after 8pm. She realized the door was unlocked when she put her key in the knob and entered the residence through the back.

Once inside, Ms. Stephenson encountered a while male, screamed and ran back outside. She ran to a neighbor’s home and called 911. While waiting for police, the victim saw the suspect run from behind her home, through the front yard and across Gateway Drive toward the railroad tracks.

Nothing appeared to be missing from the residence and Ms. Stephenson said she may have left her door unlocked when she left home. A named suspect is listed on the report.

The Hopkinsville Police Department wants to inform the public about an alleged real estate scam that recently occurred in the area.
Hopkinsville Police Public Information Officer Paul Ray is urging residents to always work with a trusted real estate professional, who has ties to the community, instead of responding to an on-line advertisement.
Officer Ray also wants to remind residents to never give out their personal information to unknown individuals, especially over the phone.                        
Residents who believe they have been a victim of a real-estate scam are urged to call Hopkinsville Police at 270-890-1500.

The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting another informative meeting this week to talk about crime and how local citizens can protect themselves from criminals.
The Canton Community meeting will take place Thursday, March 29^th at 6 p.m. at the East Golden Pond Fire Department.
Sheriff Ray Burnam says local law enforcement officials will be discussing various topics including drug activity.
Sheriff Burnam says Thursday's meeting will be a great way for residents to find out about what’s happening in their community and a chance for them to express  their concerns to law enforcement officials in a safe and friendly environment.
Again, the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Canton Community meeting Thursday, March 29^th at 6 p.m. at the East Golden Pond Fire Department.

The Christian County Animal Shelter has had enormous success using Facebook as a method to find homes for animals this year and another local agency is hoping to use social media to meet its goals.

The Pennyrile Regional Citizen Corps Council is using a Facebook page to promote disaster preparedness. The organization made up of emergency managers, neighborhood watch leaders and others from the nine county area is posting a “Preparedness Tip of the Day” as a reminder of what the average citizen can do to be ready in case the worst happens.

The Hopkinsville Fire Department can better respond to fires and other emergencies after a 2012 Pierce ladder fire truck was delivered to the main station this morning.

Official local historian William Turner was on hand to take pictures of the occasion and said the city has come a long way since the first motorized fire trucks were delivered to the city 93 years ago via rail.        

Turner says it took a while to prove to citizens that the engines could actually get to fires faster than horse teams because the animals had been trained so well to get to their destinations so quickly.

Fire Chief Fagan Pace says the committee tasked to choose a new truck put together all of the needs they had and requested them on one truck.

Chief Pace says the new truck has more capabilities than older equipment and it’s more importantly safer than any other truck already owned by the force.
