Pennyrile Citizens Corps Council travel to Frankfort

Officials with the Pennyrile Citizens Corps Council recently traveled to the state capital and met with the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security to discuss strategic planning for the region.
Attending on behalf of KOHS was the Executive Director Gene Kiser, Deputy Executive Director Shelby Lawson, and Director Aaron Horner.
Also in attendance was State Representative Myron Dossett, who joined PRCCC Chairman Dan Nicholson, Captain Chris Miller and PRCCC Regional Operations Officer Frank Brown.
KOH Executive Director Gene Kiser presented each member of the Pennyrile Regional Citizens Corps Council with a commemorative coin and commissioned Captain Miller as a Kentucky Colonel.|
The Pennyrile Regional Citizen Corps Council supports the nine-county Pennyrile region of western Kentucky, which includes: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Livingston, Lyon, Todd and Trigg Counties with personal and organizational readiness programs for all hazards.

Clarksville officials hosting walk in a park day

This Friday marks National Walk in a Park Day and Clarksville officials are inviting local citizens to participate in the event.
To celebrate the national holiday, the City of Clarksville’s Parks & Recreation Department and area business leaders will be walking from McGregor Park to the North Extension and back starting at noon.
Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan says walking is a great form of exercise and Friday’s community walk-a-thon will be the perfect opportunity for local citizens to enjoy McGregor Park or any of the city’s area parks or greenways.
For those residents who will plan to attend the walk are encouraged to submit their photos of walking in the park to the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page for a chance to win a prize.

Fugitive of the week already arrested

It only took a couple hours for one of this week’s Crime Stoppers Fugitives of the Week to be located and arrested.

An anonymous tipster called the hotline early in the morning and said 32-year old Heather Marie Dossett was at 115 East 1st Street in Hopkinsville.

Officers arrested her at that address around 9:15 and charged her with failure to appear on one count of felony theft by unlawful taking and one count of theft by deception.

She was lodged in the Christian County Jail on 10 thousand dollars bond and the anonymous tipster will receive a cash reward.

Police continue to look for 45-year old Douglas Scott Wells, who’s last known address was the 1400 block of East 7th Street.

He is a white male, standing 5-4 and weighing 135 pounds. He is wanted for probation violation. Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to call the tips line at 887-TIPS.

Hopins County man arrested on meth charges

BRITTON

A routine traffic stop in Hopkins County early this morning led to methamphetamine charges.

A news release from Kentucky State Police says 42-year old Timothy Britton of Madisonville was stopped on Island Ford Road in Jewell City around 1:30 and Trooper Jon McGehee quickly determined he was driving on a suspended license.

Britton was arrested and a search of the vehicle allegedly revealed items commonly used to make methamphetamine. Britton was charged with possession of anhydrous ammonia with the intent to make methamphetamine, possession of meth ingrendients, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license.

He was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.

Distracted driving contributes to wreck that injures Elkton woman

Distracted driving contributed to a wreck in Elkton this morning.

The incident happened just before 8am, according to Elkton Police Chief Bruce Marklin, who says 43-year old Allen Elles of Russellville was westbound on West Main Street in front of Heritage Bank while talking on his cell phone.

Elles crossed the center line and hit an on-coming vehicle driven by 58-year old Sheryl Dossett of Elkton. Ms. Dossett was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, while Elles went uninjured in the incident.
