A Todd County man was arrested in Elkton Wednesday afternoon for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and dealing drugs out of an apartment.

Elkton Police Chief Bruce Marklin and Sgt. Brian Atkinson were called to the Royal Arms Apartment Complex around 1:30 after a woman said her boyfriend—21-year old Michael Talley of 126 Meriwether St, Guthrie—had hit her in the face and choked her before pushing her down.

Police say Talley reached behind his back when officers arrived, causing them to take control of him and search his person. Chief Marklin says they found a baggie containing 10 to 15 rocks of crack cocaine in Talley’s pants and found scales commonly associated with drug trafficking in the apartment where he lived on an at least part-time basis with his girlfriend.

Talley was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, tampering with evidence and 4^th degree assault.

Chief Marklin said the pregnant victim said she would seek medical treatment via private vehicle with her mother.

Temperatures are forecast to fall below the freezing mark tonight, which has prompted a Freeze Warning for all of western Kentucky and a Frost Advisory for middle Tennessee.

The National Weather Service says those who have already put out gardens and other sensitive vegetation should cover those plants tonight, as the mercury could dip down to about 30 degrees in the early morning hours.

The cold snap isn’t expected to last long, as temperatures are forecast for the low 80’s Saturday and Sunday and the lows are not expected to be in the 30’s again in the next seven days.

Clarksville Police arrested a woman yesterday afternoon accused of stabbing her husband in a domestic dispute.

The report says officers were called to 922 Power St. around 4pm to the report of a man and woman fighting. Police found 24-year old Humberto Ignacio covered in blood and sitting on the front porch.

Ignacio reportedly said he was trying to leave the apartment with his step-son, which angered his wife—40-year old Siria Morales. Ignacio said he wanted to take the boy with him because Morales had reportedly slapped him in the past.

Ms. Morales allegedly stabbed her husband in the shoulder with a knife while he held her son and stabbed him again in the arm as he attempted to protect himself.

Police arrested Ms. Morales and charged her with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, while Ignacio was treated for his wounds at Gateway Medical Center.

Tomorrow is the final day of the 2012 Kentucky General Assembly and it will likely be a long one.

State lawmakers almost always set aside one day called a “veto day,” when they can over-ride any of the governor’s vetoes on the budget or elsewhere.

It’s unclear if there will be any over-ridden vetoes this time around, but State Senator Joey Pendleton says it will likely be a long day.

One major item left over this year is the state road plan, which State Senator Joey Pendleton says likely won’t include much new construction of roadways.

Initial design work on the northeast bypass around Hopkinsville is already funded, but the actual construction will likely not be funded in this year’s road plan, according to Senator Pendleton.

The General Assembly will also deal with the “pill mill bill,” which would require doctors across Kentucky to subscribe to the “KASPER” computer prescription tracking system to cut down on people who go to multiple doctors to get the same addictive medications.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of expensive tractor parts likely stolen for their value in scrap metal.

The crime happened at 25976 Coal Creek Road near Crofton between March 9^th and Monday of this week, where 39-year old Chris Combs of that address said someone went into his back yard and stole 12 tractor weights and a bush hog shaft.

The items are valued at a total of 14 hundred dollars and no suspects are listed on the report.
