Governor Beshear has wasted no time in calling lawmakers back to Frankfort next week for a special legislative session to pass a transportation budget and a prescription abuse bill. 
 
Lawmakers adjourned this year's legislative session late Thursday night without completing work on those two pieces of legislation. On Friday, Beshear called lawmakers back for a special session to begin Monday. 
 
Beshear blamed Republican Senate President David Williams for thwarting passage of the bills. Williams pointed his finger back at Beshear, claiming he was playing politics. 
 
Kentucky's divided legislature has a history of ending annual legislative sessions without budget agreements. The state's last three budgets were adopted in special legislative sessions called after they'd failed to reach accords on spending plans.

Two volunteer fire departments responded to a business fully engulfed in flames Thursday evening.

The call went out around 6:50 of a fire at Burkhead and Scott Inc. at 2497 Greenville Road. Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says the employees of the solid waste business had just left for the day when the call of fire came out shortly after.

Graham said no one was injured and that two explosions initially reported by fire-fighters were likely tires burning inside the building. The blaze was contained to the structure, with several trailers and other equipment on the property going unharmed.

Smoke could be seen billowing into the sky from the blaze through much of Christian County, with Graham saying it's too early to say what may have caused the fire.

An afternoon fire reportedly caused extensive damage to a Hopkinsville residence.
Hopkinsville Fire Department Deputy Chief Eric Bleidt says three fire trucks responded to 901 Hurst Drive after receiving a call from ECC about the fire around 2:10.
Deputy Chief Bleidt says no one was injured as a result of the fire, but the single-story residence was severely damaged and he could not confirm or deny whether or not foul play was involved in the blaze.
Once on the scene, fire-fighters were able to quickly put out the fire and officials say an investigation remains ongoing concerning the cause of the blaze.

A Clarksville business owner recently expressed his gratitude to the Clarksville Police Department in a very large way.
Deok Kwon Nam, the owner Shogun Restaurant presented a personal donation of $1,000 to go towards the police department’s youth coalition.
Police say the youth coalition is a unique program which works with at risk juvenile offenders.
The check was presented to Deputy Police Chief Frankie Gray, Officer Tony Marshall, Chaplain David Lee and Sergeant J.W. Hunt.

Operating a motor vehicle is a privilege and the Clarksville Police Department wants to ensure all teens become responsible drivers.
The police department next month will be hosting another student traffic awareness class.
Public Information Officer Jim Knoll says the student traffic awareness course is very important.
Again, classes will take place Saturday, May 5^th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grace Nazarene Church located at 3135 Trenton Road, Clarksville.
