A young Madisonville man is in critical condition after a wreck in Hopkins County last night.

A news release from Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Bailey says 23-year old Miles Stanley of Brown Road, Madisonville was traveling on that roadway near the Eastlawn Road intersection around 8:50 when he ran off the pavement and traveled 200 feet before hitting a culvert.

Stanley’s vehicle went airborne and flipped several times before finally coming to rest on its side in a field. Stanley was taken to Regional Medical Center, before being transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville in critical condition.

A Hopkins County man has been arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a young girl.

Facing two counts of first degree sexual abuse is 34-year old Samuel Back of Nortonville, who allegedly sexually abused the 14-year old girl in June of 2010.

Back was arrested at the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.

Hopkinsville Police are investigating a shooting on South Campbell Street from last night.

Sgt. Mike Marszalek says officers were called to the 100 block of South Campbell around 9:15 and found 27-year old Jevon Radford lying on the road with a gunshot wound.

Radford was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, before being transferred by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His condition wasn’t immediately known.

Sgt. Marszalek says the investigation continues and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Clarksville Police are investigating an apparent murder under very bizarre circumstances.
A news release says Clarksville Police were called to Victory Road around 12:30 Sunday morning after a motorist stopped to check on a vehicle that had run off the road. He told dispatchers he couldn’t wake up the driver of the vehicle and investigators determined the man had been shot.
Montgomery County EMS pronounced the 22-year old male victim dead at the scene and the area was taped off for a homicide investigation. Police say the victim was last seen at his home at “The Residences” at 1671 Fort Campbell Boulevard.
Anyone who may have seen him or his dark grey Subaru Impreza Saturday evening is asked to call Clarksville Police. The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

Against all odds, the 62^nd Annual WHOP Rotary Radio Auction overcame a large deficit going into the final night and came away with a record year.

An astounding 366 items were sold on the final night, amassing nearly 46-thousand dollars—which is only about five thousand dollars less than the other five nights combined.

The diner and sweet shop also performed well on the final night, bringing in a little over 11-thousand dollars, which was by far the biggest evening of the week.

Overall, the auction raised $300,512, which is $7,782 more than last year’s total. That is even more remarkable considering the auction was in a 13-thousand dollar hole compared to last year’s numbers when the first bell rang at 6pm Saturday.

Auction Chair Frank Giles thanked everyone who contributed to the auction during his closing remarks in the early morning hours.

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Rotary Auction remains the largest such rotary auction among all clubs anywhere in the world. The money raised goes to fund scholarships and student loans for graduates of high schools in Christian County.
