Fort Campbell relieved to see House Bill 481 enacted into law
Fort Campbell officials say House Bill 481 has a huge effect on the local post.
1-32nd Cavalry Regiment Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Taylor says before synthetic drugs were made illegal, soldiers were able to purchase synthetic drugs easily at various gas stations.
Lieutenant Colonel Taylor says soldiers were prohibited from purchasing synthetic drugs, but were still able to purchase them off post without any consequences.
House Bill 481 bans whole classes of synthetic drugs that are being marketed and sold at gas stations as bath salts and potpourri.
Representative John Tilley, who sponsored the bill, says those caught selling or buying the illegal substance face fines and even jail time.
Governor Steve Beshear traveled to Hopkinsville recently and ceremoniously signed the bill into law with various local leaders watching on.

Trigg wreck injures two, closes road
U.S. 68-80 was closed several hours this morning after a SUV versus tractor-trailer wreck near the Blue Springs Road intersection.
Few details are available, but initial reports from police and the highway department indicate the tractor trailer overturned on the roadway, blocking both directions of traffic for some time.
Two people were injured and taken to Trigg County Hospital. An Air Evac helicopter was initially called to the scene, but was called off when EMS determined it wasn’t necessary.
Trigg County Sheriff Ray Burnam says one of his deputies will release further details when possible.

I-24 Motorist arrested for possessing 25lbs of marijuana
The Clarksville Police Department arrested a man who allegedly had 25 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle last night on I-24.
A news release says Officer Channel Bartel pulled over 36-year old Miguel Zamarron-Flores of Texas around 8pm for speeding near the 8 mile-marker.
The suspect gave police permission to search his car, which allegedly turned up a black bag containing 25 pounds of the illegal weed. Zammaron-Flores was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with the intention to sell it and lodged in the Montgomery County Jail on 110-thousand dollars bond.

Details released on Hopkinsville home invasion
Hopkinsville Police have released details on the home invasion and robbery on Linda Drive last night.
The report says the incident happened around 10:20 at 513 Linda Drive, where five people were in the residence—including a three-year old female.
Five black males reportedly kicked in the front door and used duct tape to tie one of the male victim’s hands together while yelling for the other four victims to get on the floor.
Once on the floor, the perpetrators allegedly stomped the male victims in the back of the head while demanding money. The perpetrator got away with the wallet of 28-year old Martez Washington of Hopkinsville—which only contained his bank card and several one-dollar bills. Washington said they also got away with his keys.
Washington and 27-year old Richard Manning sustained what are described as minor injuries in the attack. One suspect is named on the report, while the other four are listed as “unknown.”

Police say autopsy was key in Muhlenberg murder investigation
Kentucky State Police investigators say it was an autopsy and evidence on the scene that led them to charge two Muhlenberg County residents in the death of their step-father and husband.
As previously reported, 39-year old Joel Allen is charged with murder and 64-year old Deanna Slaton is accused of hindering the investigation. The mother and son took 65-year old Floyd Slaton to Muhlenberg Community Hospital Memorial Day, saying he fell down the stairs and hit his head.
The victim would die before police arrived. KSP Post 2 Public Information Officer Stu Recke says autopsy results were key in the investigation.
Trooper Recke says evidence was also found at the scene that helped confirm police suspicions.
Police are not releasing a possible motive for the beating death.
