Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson will be in Hopkinsville Monday and will make at least two stops.

His first event will be at 10:30am at the old Carnegie Library on Liberty Street, where official local historian William Turner says a ceremonial check of a half-million dollars will be presented.

The Carnegie Library Foundation plans to make the building into a tutoring and lecture center in addition to an art gallery. The grant money will go toward renovations of the interior.

Turner says the ceremony is open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

No fewer than eight candidates for political office and current office-holders will give “stump speeches” Saturday morning at the North Christian Old Fashioned Political Rally and Crafts Fair.

Organizer Frank Brown says the crafts fair begins at 8am Saturday at Gordon Park and the speeches begin at 10.

Brown encourages attendees to dress “old fashioned” and to wear political paraphernalia.

Scheduled to speak are Congressman Ed Whitfield, congressional candidate James Buckmaster, State Reprsentative John Tilley, his opponent Max Sturdivant Jr, Representative Myron Dossett, 15^th District State Representative candidate Doctor Marshall Prunty, State Senator Joey Pendleton and his opponent Whitney Westerfield.

A young Hopkinsville man was arrested last night after he allegedly kicked a paramedic and said he wanted to go to jail.

An ambulance was called to 719 East 7^th Street around 9pm to the report of a male having a seizure on the floor of a home.

The crew found 18-year old Kristopher Wyvel with good vital signs, but called police when he allegedly became combative. Officer Robert Sibal writes Wyvel had bloodshot eyes and that he seemed to be under the influence of some type of substance.

Wyvel allegedly kicked a paramedic as he tried to administer oxygen, saying he wanted to go to jail.

He was arrested and charged with assault of an emergency responder and public intoxication.

Sgt. Schwallie

The Department of Defense has announced the deaths of three Fort Bragg soldiers in Afghanistan, two of which had area ties.

An improvised explosive device attack Monday claimed the lives of 22-year old Sgt. Jacob Schwallie of Clarksville, 19-year old Private First Class Dustin Gross of Jeffersonville, Kentucky and 24-year old Chase Marta of Chico, California.

The soldiers were assigned to the 3^rd Squadron, 73^rd Cavalry Regiment, 1^st Brigade Combat Team, 82^nd Airborne Division.

Sgt. Schwallie was a 2007 graduate of Rossview High School, while Private Gross graduated from Montgomery County High School in Mount Sterling, Kentucky.

The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office caught a man they’d been seeking for several weeks yesterday.

A news release from Sheriff Ray Burnam says Sgt. Jimmy Godair spotted 29-year old Roddrickas Shemwell of Cerulean in downtown Cadiz around 2:20pm.

Shemwell allegedly tried to run down Sheriff’s Sgt Godair and Deputy Rick Burgess with his vehicle following an incident at the Barkley Manor Apartments late last month.

He is charged with wanton endangerment, fleeing from police and driving on a DUI suspended license.
