One hundred forty-five seniors graduated from Todd County Central High School last night. The Class of 2013 Valedictorian is Lauren Addison, the Salutatorian is Kaylee Belanger, and the First Honor Student is Makayla Wiles. Five students received a Commonwealth Diploma— Lauren Addison, Kaylee Belanger, Amber Laster, Kasey Tomlinson, and Kayla Watkins. The Campbell Loving Cup Award, sponsored in honor of Aubrey and Bertha Campbell by their sons, was presented to Shelby Knuckles. Eric Weaver was first runner-up and Lauren Addison was second runner-up. The high honor recognizes students for not only their scholastic achievements, but also for extra-curricular activities, community involvement and their character. Officials with O’Charley’s of Hopkinsville tonight honored a hometown hero as part of their reopening celebration.
Officials recognized Corporal and Purple Heart recipient, Lindell Pleasant of Martin, Tennessee as a hometown hero with friends and family in attendance.
Corporal Pleasant has served in the Army for six years and during his first tour on active duty in Afghanistan, Pleasant’s vehicle struck an I-E-D where he suffered significant injuries and was awarded a PurpleHeart for combat in the summer of 2009.
Pleasant is currently the training room Non-Commisioned Officer for Headquarters-Headquarters Company, 1-506th Infantry Regiment.
The local O’Charley’s is among the first in the nation to undergo a revitalization and reimaging plan that features refurbished store interiors and exteriors and updated menu items. ** (05/22/2013/MF)

Hopkinsville City Council met tonight and unanimously passed on first reading an amended ordinance concerning the sale of alcohol beverages within city limits.
City Chief Financial Officer, Robert Martin offers more details about the amended ordinance.
City council also unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to authorize the city to issue Industrial Revenue Bonds to finance the cost of an expansion project at Riken Elastomer Corporation.
The bonds will be used to finance the costs of constructing and equipping a 20,000 square foot expansion of the company's existing facility located at 340 Riken Court.

The current principal at Lacy Elementary School will be the next principal at Christian County Middle. That’s according to a news release from central office, which says Christopher Bentzel will take over at Christian County Middle July 1st. Bentzel is a graduate of Elizabethtown College of Pennsylvania where he earned his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education. He received his Master’s degree in School Administration from Murray State University. Bentzel has 8 years of experience in education as a teacher and as a principal. Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says Bentzel has shown he is results driven at Lacy and she believes he will have continued success at CCMS. ** 05/22/2013/am |

Officials with the Christian County School District have announced that a new principal of South Christian Elementary has been hired for the upcoming school year.
Cherise Brummer, of Collier County School District in Naples, Florida has been selected as the new principal of South Christian Elementary School.
School District Spokesperson, Heather Aubin gives more details about Ms. Brummer’s credentials and educational background.
Ms. Aubin says CCPS Superintendent, Mary Ann Gemmill is confident Ms. Brummer is a great fit for the position.
The school’s site-based council received 15 applications for the principal position and Ms. Brummer’s first day as principal will be July 1st. ** (05/21/2013/MF) |
