10,000 people attend Hopkinsville's 32nd annual Little River Days Festival

Despite a couple of days of rain, thousands of people still attended the City of Hopkinsville’s 32nd annual Little River Days Festival.

The festival was held Thursday through Sunday, May 16th through the 19th and opened early Thursday with numerous vendors showcasing their products for sale.

City of Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent, Gary McIntyre says even though rain dampened some activities Thursday and Friday about 10,000 people still attended the festival.

McIntyre says the festival usually brings in about 15,000 people on average over the course of the 4-day event.

Belmont University Freshman, Haley Page took home the 1,000 prize in the festival’s Hoptown’s Got Talent competition and Indian Hills Elementary School took first place, while Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School took second place in the School Challenge 1 Mile Fun Run.

Nearly 600 people participated in the JSMC Sports Medicine 5K and the Little River Bicycling Tour, which is an increase from the previous year.

Hopkinsville-Christian County Y officials unveil expansion plans

Officials with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Y this afternoon unveiled proposed phase 1 plans for the local facility that will see major additions in the near future.

Chief Volunteer Officer, Leslie Carroll gave more information about the proposed phase 1 plans.

Over 100 representatives from numerous organizations attended the local Y’s annual campaign luncheon and heard dozens of success stories thanks to programs sponsored through the Y with Ms. Carroll saying she is amazed how the organization has been able to make a positive impact in the community.

After hearing the testimonies from individuals who have benefited from the Y’s programs, attendees can all agree that the local Y is much more than a place to exercise, it's an organization that reaches out to the community by providing numerous community outreach programs.

HPD participating in Click it or Ticket campaign

Several local motorists have received citations the last couple days for not wearing their seat belt as Hopkinsville Police continues to participate in the Click It or Ticket campaign.

Officer Paul Ray says the effort is ongoing through June 2 and that no warnings will be given—only citations.

Statistics show those involved in wrecks are far more likely to survive when wearing a seat belt and Officer Ray says the main goal is to save lives.

Kentucky State Police, Cadiz Police and departments across the Commonwealth have extra officers on the street for extra seat belt enforcement.

Arrests made in CCMS burglary

Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with the burglary at Christian County Middle School over the weekend.

Two 15-year old male Hopkinsville residents are charged with 3rd Degree Burglary for allegedly going into an unsecured door at the school on Glass Avenue Saturday morning and stealing two laptops, several IPad Mini's and one full-sized IPad with a total value of just over $2,400.

One of the suspects was arrested at Christian County High School, reportedly wearing the same shoes and red Christian County Middle School t-shirt he was seen wearing in the surveillance footage from the burglary. He also allegedly had one of the stolen items in his pocket and admitted to being part of the crime.

The other suspect was arrested on Big Blue Court and also allegedly had stolen property in his possession. He also reportedly admitted to selling one of the stolen items for $25.

Two Clarksville juveniles accused of robbery

Two Clarksville juveniles are in custody after police say they robbed a man this morning.

Police say the juveniles were on their way to the Alternative School when they robbed a downt
own businessman on his way to work around 7 a.m. in the area of Commerce Street and 3rd Street. 

Police say the juveniles were detained after the victim was able to identify the suspects during a show-up. 

Both juveniles are currently in custody and police are in the process of preparing juvenile petitions and notifying Juvenile Court to request both juveniles remain detained.
