Fort Campbell is joining other federal, state and local highway safety, law enforcement and motorcycle organizations in proclaiming May as national Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
Military officials say Army-wide motorcycle fatalities increased in fiscal year 2012 to 49, which is 4 more than what was reported the previous year.
Officials say five of the motorcycle fatalities were Fort Campbell soldiers and a large percentage of the wrecks involved another vehicle.
To date, Fort Campbell has not experienced a motorcycle fatality this year and post officials are hoping that number will not change.
To promote motorcycle safety and awareness the post’s Installation Safety Office will conduct a motorcycle safety day, which consists of a series of 3 motorcycle safety briefings throughout this month.
