May has been designated as national Military Appreciation Month and all across the country, communities are expressing their gratitude to members of the armed forces for their continued service and sacrifice to the nation.
Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp was joined by Oak Grove Mayor Dan Potter this morning to officially recognize and proclaim May as Military Appreciation Month in Christian County.
Mayor Kemp says he hopes the community will join him and other local elected officials in honoring local service members for their selfless decision to serve the nation.
A proclamation that was signed by both mayors and Christian County Judge Executive Steve Tribble was presented to Fort Campbell Garrison Commander, Colonel Buck Dellinger during this month’s military affairs committee meeting at the Christian County Chamber of Commerce.
Colonel Dellinger says he is humbled to receive the proclamation in behalf of Fort Campbell soldiers, as many are currently deployed in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Congress in 1999 designated May as national Military Appreciation Month to ensure citizens could publicly express their gratitude to service members.
