A Hopkinsville man may have gotten away with a recent burglary if he hadn't unknowingly tried to sell a stolen gun back to its owner.
Hopkinsville Police served an arrest warrant for first degree burglary charges on 18-year old Zachary Evans of the city around 3 am this morning at the Roadway Inn. The warrant says Evans stole a Remington rifle from a Skyline Park Drive residence Monday and took it to the America Pawn Shop Tuesday to sell it for cash.
Evans didn't know it, but the manager of pawn the shop is actually the daughter of the victim from Monday and she told police the gun belonged to her. She was able to get the gun from Evans and he left his drivers license at the store as he fled the scene.
Evans is in the Christian County Jail on $25,000 bond.
