Fort Campbell leadership say tomorrow’s Purple Heart ceremony has been a long time coming for a local soldier and Vietnam veteran for their service and sacrifice. 101st Airborne Division Senior Acting Commander, Brigadier General Mark Stammer will be presenting Staff Sergeant Richard McLain and Donnie Roach, a Vietnam veteran, with Purple Heart medals. Post officials say the Purple Heart medal is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917, has been wounded or killed. The ceremony is scheduled to take place Tuesday morning at McAuliffe Hall. ** (03/18/2013/MF)
