Unemployment was up in all nine Pennyrile counties in January and went back into double-digits in Christian and Trigg Counties. Trigg County had the highest jobless rate in the nine counties at 10.8 percent, up from 9.3 in December. Christian had the second highest number at 10.7 percent, up by 1.7 percent from December. The Christian County number equates to 2,833 people who were looking for work, but were unable to find it. Todd County unemployment went up by an even one percent to 8.8, equating to 487 people out of work. Caldwell County continued to boast the lowest jobless rate at 7.8 percent and Hopkins County is second lowest at 8 percent even. Muhlenberg County was the one of three in the Pennyrile in double-digits at 10.4 percent. Woodford County had Kentucky’s lowest unemployment rate at 5.9 percent and Magoffin County had the highest with 18.8 percent. Fulton County was fifth highest at 15.2 percent.
