One legged man allegedly steals vehicle from homeless woman in Clarksville

A homeless woman with a rental vehicle became the victim of a thief Tuesday evening who she was only trying to help.

A news release from Clarksville Police Public Information Officer Jim Knoll says the 42-year old woman was driving along with her 18-year old son on Riverside Drive around 5:45pm when she noticed a man who only had one leg sitting in a wheelchair in a parking lot.

The woman thought the man looked tired, so she stopped and asked if he needed a ride. The man accepted and later asked to be taken to Taco Bell to purchase food, which she complied with. The woman later stopped to have a private conversation with her son outside of the vehicle and that’s when he allegedly climbed over the back seat and drove away with the 2012 Chevy Impala—as heard in the 9-1-1 call.

The suspect is described as a black male, standing 5-7, weighing 250 lbs. and he is missing his left leg. The vehicle is gold in color and has Tennessee tags.
