Dawson Springs man killed in wreck, alcohol thought to be a factor

A Dawson Springs man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County Friday night and police believe alcohol may have been a factor.

A news release from Kentucky State Police says 29-year old Paul Dearien of Dawson Springs was southbound just before 7pm when he ran off the roadway and into the median. Dearien was able to get his SUV back on the highway, but couldn’t regain control and went back into the median a second time.

His vehicle then rolled across the northbound lanes, before finally coming to rest on the south side of the road. Police say Dearien was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, with responders’ efforts to save his life unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield.

The investigation continues, but KSP does believe alcohol to have been a factor.
