The Cadiz Police Department wants the public to be aware about a phone scam circulating around town.
A Cadiz resident recently contacted police saying she had received a phone call from an unknown person stating she had won $500,000.
The resident also reported that in order to claim the money, she had to send $1,900 to an address in the Philippines and was directed to call a number and send the money through Western Union.
Cadiz Police contacted the number that the resident was told to call and when officers dialed that number, a foreign male answered then hung up when he was asked questions.
Police say this is another common phone scam that circulates in the United States.
Police are reminding residents that if someone asks you to send money to claim a bigger prize, it's not a legitimate claim.
Foreign lotteries and sweepstakes are illegal in the United States.
