Wreck closes Hopkins Co. interstate, trucker injured

Both southbound lanes of Interstate 69 in Hopkins County were closed for about two hours this morning after a wreck involving a tractor trailer.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office says a man identified only as Michael Avery was northbound near the 104 mile-marker around 3:40 when he swerved to miss a deer.

His semi traveled into the median and crossed the southbound lanes before striking a guard rail and going down an embankment. Avery was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health for treatment of his injuries.

Traffic resumed normal flow about two hours after the accident.
