Hopkinsville Police say the victim of yesterday’s shooting has been treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the search continues for other suspects wanted in connection with the incident.

HPD Sgt. Richard McCormack says 21-year old Demario Bennett of the city was released from the Nashville hospital after being flown there for multiple gunshot wounds Monday.

Officers were called to a Greenville Road address around 12:30 to the report of a man who had been shot, but Captain Michael Seis told WHOP News at the scene that police believed Bennett had been shot elsewhere in the city.

Police arrested 25-year old Barri Brown of Hopkinsville later in the afternoon and charged him with first degree assault. The arrest card says video surveillance at the Shell Station on East 9th Street shows Brown in a physical altercation with Bennett minutes before he was shot. Officer Tony Sierra writes the tape shows Brown and other suspects waiting for Bennett to leave, before following him eastbound on Ninth.

Sgt. McCormack says an arrest warrant has been issued for 23-year old Desmond Leavell and police are looking for two other suspects who may be connected—though their names are not being released.

Anyone knowing Leavell’s whereabouts can call the anonymous Crime Stoppers Tips Line at 887-TIPS.
