| Yonts likes House version of pension reform |
|
State Representative Brent Yonts says the House version of pension system reform passed last week was the more common sense approach. The bill was much different than the Senate Bill 2 legislation received from the upper chamber, as it makes far less changes to benefits for new hires and puts more focus on finding new ways to fund what’s currently in place including additional lottery games. Representative Yonts says some structural changes included in the bill will produce savings over time.
Yonts believes the House version could prevent future pension system failure and prevent cuts to other important parts of the state’s budget.
A conference committee will almost certainly take up pension system reform and it’s very possible the issue will require a special session. ** |
