It appears the statewide smoking ban bill won’t pass during this year’s session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
Eighth District State Representative John Tilley of Hopkinsville says the bill has been sent to the House Judiciary Committee that he chairs for “informational purposes only,” with no vote anticipated.
Representative Tilley says his committee will debate and discuss the details. While the legislation doesn’t seem to have a chance of passing this year, a similar bill will likely resurface again in future sessions.
Supporters say a ban on smoking in places of employment would improve the health of Kentuckians, while detractors say it’s an infringement on property owner rights.
