A Clarksville woman was arrested on child abuse charges Monday night.
Clarksville Police were called to a 331 Market Street apartment after residents nearby heard a child screaming. Arriving officers found a group gathering outside of an apartment and a child could be heard screaming as if he was in distress.
Police made contact with 35-year old Jessica Mires, who was allegedly intoxicated. When officers talked to her nine year old son, he reportedly said Mires had been slapping him on the back over his clothes not being ready for the next day.
Red marks were left on his back and EMS was called to check him out. Mires was arrested and charged with child abuse and the child was left to stay with an adult male at the residence after the Department of Child Services was called.
