Governors Stadium at Austin Peay State University is one step closer in getting a much needed make-over.
The state building commission recently approved an increase in funding of $900,000 to go towards renovation efforts at the stadium.
Officials say the additional monies were mandatory to cover higher than anticipated construction costs and were provided by private gifts and a one-time plant fund investment.
The total cost to renovate Governors Stadium is $16.9 million with the entire home side of the 66-year old stadium to be torn down at the end of this year’s football season and replaced with a new structure that will include skyboxes and 800 club-level seats and 5,000 regular seats and additional renovations will also be made to the visitors side.
Officials say the stadium will reopen just in time for the 2014 football season.
